To be honest, Karlsson being so high on scoring amongst defensemen is just a testament to his individual greatness. Honestly, besides 2019, he has no actual legacy with this franchise. When Erik Karlsson retires and gets enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame, people will be like "oh yeah, he was a Shark". He is just the face of this painful era and it's not necessarily his fault, but I'm not going to view him with any kind of real legacy with this franchise.
Karlsson's legacy will be that of Wilson's biggest blunder. Look at what we gave up to get him, and look at what we got back. We gave away two top 6 forwards for nothing. You could argue less than nothing. We retained 1.5 mil X 4 years, gave up a 3rd, took on 3 cap dumps, that realistically won't return more than a couple 4th or 5ths, for an at best mid 1st, probable late 1st. I don't care about the cap relief, that is the last thing a rebuilding team needs. Within four years the only player that will need a big raise is Eklund. With the cap going up over the next few years and the retained salaries and contracts coming off the books we do not need cap space. To say we do or to make a point that it's a big plus is ridiculous. Over the next four years the cap is going to increase almost 10mil.
Doug Wilson pushed all his chips into the pot for a shot at the cup, and he busted in an epic spectacular fashion.
Imagine we get him back in 4 years as a free agent after Sid retires? We might be dynamite 🧨 by then… I understand not wanting to carry the team on his back for 2-3 years, but if he doesn’t win in Pittsburgh he may have had a chance once the Fresh Bay Prince is ready, Bystedt, Musty, Bordy, Ekkie… and imagine we resign Greggy? 😮😅
I met John Miller a few years ago in Half Moon Bay where he and my Aunt live. We were walking into the normal neighborhood grocery store and he was sitting alone in the front at a cafe table scrolling on his iPad. Thanked him for everything he does, and told him Dave F & himself are the best in all of sports at what they do. Congratulated him on the hall of fame & snapped a picture with him. He was very humble and friendly and I’ll never forget meeting the hall of famer who’s voice has dominated my am radio for years. Very cool guy, and yes I agree, we have the best 4 broadcasters in all of sports tv & radio.
That contract ruined the sharks. Blame wilson for that. EK was ASS up until last year. Don't care what anyone says happy to see him go and good riddance. Sharks can finally build a team
I know you love EK. Great individual skill, but his legacy: instead of the final piece to a cup-winner, he became the final nail in the coffin.
It's good to get this done so we can move forward. I don't know if it's in your plans for content this week, but I am kind of confused and curious by what will happen with the roster. It seems that we have way too many D and forwards, and more cap space to weaponize. 🙂 Do you anticipate any more transactions before the offseason?
Yeah … there is no legacy. It was an ugly stain! There’s a reason why he was literally locked 🔒 out of the sharks locker room. ON CAMERA!… And at least Kane did WHAT HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO DO and backed it up when he was supposed to. He went on a TEAR in the playoffs for them. And also importantly, he was liked and had the respect from the guys.. while Erik didn’t.. He played for himself this year.. Erik’s the biggest bust in San Jose Sharks history! THAT’S Erik’s Legacy!
Signing him over Pavelski is the biggest mistake of this franchise ever made. And they traded for Evander Kane.
That forward group actually has a ton of offensive upside up and down all 12. Will take a lot of 'ifs' but I actually think that forward group could put the Sharks in the creamy middle, maybe sniff wild card if a bunch of those guys bounce back. Unless Blackwood and Kahkonen put up the same numbers as last year up then the tank is on.
"are they good players??" no…the answer is no…
In the end Ottawa definitely won that trade, imagine Stuzle and Eklund together. Grier has been doing a fantastic job so far, sorry but not sorry. I was a never really a fan of Doug Wilson. I see what he was trying to do, but this aged terrible. Glad Grier is cleaning up the mess
San Jose did as well as could in trade with Pittsburgh and Montreal
got some good play from Karlsson; time of transition for team
Sharks could use more team defense transition offense
maybe some active forecheck ant get back on defense without hitting on boards?
It's time to waive Labanc, no way should he be playing over Peterson. He has no value to trade or as a fourth liner, just cut him.
