  1. Just makes little sense Building an older team to compete against such a young and hungry metro division. The playoff experience they have is incredible but, they still have to get past an 82 game season where the #2 and #3 team reside in there division and those teams got better.
Fighting for a wild card won’t be any easier with teams like the Sabres and Sens coming into their competitive window now too.

  2. Lands a norris winning, 100pt+ dman, but more importantly, dumps a huge amount of terrible salary. That would have been a win on its own. The trade is great for Pittsburgh. You have to remember that the Penguins only really have this coming season and maybe next year. That's all that matters. After that, it's time for a complete teardown/rebuild.

  3. I never liked Dubas but I absolute adore his power move when he publicly questioned staying in Toronto. Clearly he knew the power in Toronto and his price to stay and work for Shanahan under his restrictions was probably 50%+ more than what he signed for in Pittsburgh, but he forced ownership to choose between him and Shanahan. That meant he didn't quit, he was fired, so he saves face, signs with a much better organization, gets paid and gets less pressure. Just a masterclass in negotiating tactics because either way he wins.

  4. Great players change teams and struggle. Crosby Malkin and Karlsson all a year older. The new shiny toy is no better today than last year.

  5. The Pens core have proven they can win, the leafs core haven't and that's the difference.

  6. and it cost tens of millions. Dubas always goes after the best player….they aren't always the right player

  7. These guys are stupid. 😂 Forgetting who they have on their team. I could see if they were slowing down, but it has not happened yet. Crosby is a generational talent, who is showing zero signs of slowing down. Brady did it, Berg did it in Boston. Crosby is going to have a career year at the age of 36. People forget we never saw Crosby best. At his peak when he was averaging 1.63ppg for three years straight he was hurt. We missed out on a few 130-140 pt seasons in one of the lowest scoring eras in NHL history. These bozos have no idea what is coming. 😂

  8. Matthews is going to be Shanahan's albatross; they could have done a rebuild trading him alone

  9. Goaltending is awesome! The D-Core is great! The wingers are decent but the centers…i keep seeing wheelchairs. Injuries are going to destroy this team.

  10. If Dubas had "stones", then he would have traded away one of the Core 4 in Toronto rather than be comfortable with "status quo" year after year. Dubas didn't want to take a risk and trade one of Toronto's Core 4.

  11. He's got pressure to win now. What else was he going to do? I realize hockey news is light in the summer but this really feels like a Dubas homerism. Pitt needs to score more and this SHOULD satisfy that. Barring a significant let down, this move should guarantee butts in the buckets for the next couple of seasons.

But are they in the discussion for contention now? Not even close.
