Struggled his second year after a stellar first, was never going to fill Hyman’s shoes…

Best of luck with the Canes.

Not really, it was obvious the numbers were never going to work out. His suspension against TB was the nail in the coffin.

Felt like once the refs favour turned on Bunting around January, the writing was on the wall.

Why? If they knew his market value and weren’t willing to pay it, would it somehow have been better to send him a lowball offer just for S&G?

  4. this_name_not_that

No. Bunting’s a bum, belongs in the AHL.

  5. MrWillM

Glad he didn’t. He’s gonna fit in perfectly in NC.

He lost the game that made him stand out. That type of player needs to know how to keep their mouth shut and to deep throat the egos of the officials, he did neither of those things.

  7. Jeez-essFC

No. In limited viewing he tended to take stupid penalties at stupid times and his teammates’ facial expressions and body language gave me the impression they were tired of his schtick by the end of the 2nd season. My .02

He needed a new start elsewhere.

Leafs management was smart by not even making an offer.

He was heading into Kadri territory and costing them playoff games, every other player in the nhl knows how to trigger this fella and the refs are always waiting to call it every time he is on the ice.

They could have absolutely low balled him to emphasize he’s not part of their plans, sometimes silence speaks louder than words

I didnt think he was gonna stay in toronto

Either way « milk » has got to be the weirdest jersey ad in the league

  11. Snow-Brigade

Skilled but his attitude does not seem to fit that of the core 4 or what the leafs are going for. Constantly asking for calls and incredulous when he committed his own. Kinda the worst kinda of player in my opinion.

  12. TheSSMinnowJohnson

    Nah. Teams better now.

  13. KolhiiHead69

Wasn’t a good fit in Toronto. Having a pest like Bunting is only effective if the rest of your team is also willing to mix it up. The top guys in Toronto are the types to typically avoid that kind of stuff, so you’d just having Bunting pissing people off and dragging his teammates into fights that wanted no part in it.

Not sure how Carolina is when it comes to mixing it up, but if they have a little more fire then it will probably be a better fit.

  14. Arpey75

He is like an offensive Tony DeAngelo. Not every team wants/needs that in the locker room.

  15. InternationalBrick76

So none of these guys look at the leafs cap situation? It’s going to be very difficult for the leafs to retain any of these secondary role guys with the money Matthews, Marner, and Willy are demanding. It will be a revolving door of these types if they can’t get the guys to take discounts.

  16. TiredReader87

No. He was a liability, who really fell off last season. Good riddance.

  17. GreatIceGrizzly

Bunting though tough took too many foolish penalties, so though I appreciated his work ethic, and enthusiasm on the Doofus created lack of strength Maple Laughs, I would prefer someone else who hits hard but does not take bad penalties…

  18. Allen_Koholic

Bunting’s shoulder is the only reason the Leafs made it to the second round.
