  1. The starting lineup in 2019 was terrible, but the farm system was also bare. He had to build the farm from almost nothing. The Wings now have a league average lineup, and a very deep and talented system. They've improved a ton. They also have no albatross contracts on the books either.

  2. Stevie Y seems to be judged harshly for questionable decisions, Not even bad decisions, just questionable. Stevie Y has improved the redwings so much since he's taken over as GM. The hate is unjust

  3. the D core was absymal , who exactly was he suppsed to get and for what price/cap hit? it's one thing to give the youngsters a chance to play, quite another to give them a chance to win. they have that now

  4. They are past the rebuild. They have to make the playoffs. People need to realize the financial hit a team takes missing them. They don't need a top 10 pick, they need to win.

  5. As a big wings fan I say we have to see how year goes D is looking very different and we play in a very tough division. I think lot of fans believe it will take time but we’re on a great track to bringing Hockeytown back to its glory

  6. Lets just take a minute And Appreciate the fact that people are saying, "You have too many defensive men that can play NHL minutes."

  7. That guy needed clicks so he made a negative statement about the Yzerplan so the Red Wing faithful would come rushing to Yzemans aid. It’s becoming a common theme.

The Red Wings (on paper) are a vastly better team this year than last. Last year the lack of depth was so evident Yzerman was a seller at the dead line.

The lack of D against teams like Ottawa and Buffalo who absolutely shelled the Wings made it abundantly clear the D needed an overhaul … and that’s what he did ..

  8. I like Yzerman's moves. People act like there is something better that could be done by Yzerman. He is keeping things manageable, flexible, and being smart and patient. DET will take off in 2-3 years when Cossa is ready for NHL time.

  9. First off, I think a lot of this fueled by the Wings NEVER giving you anything to explain what they are thinking. So like it's hard to know what they thinking, even though the moves generally seem to make sense. But that tweet tho. For real? "Influenced by factors like ownership, scouting, geography…" So he's worse because he went to a team with one of the richest, most committed ownership groups and one of the biggest, best scouting departments? Try squaring that circle brother. People are just acting out now.

  10. Bacon is just looking for clicks, Detroit was a disaster in 2019 thanks in large part to Kenny Holland. Helm was in the top 6, Abdelkader was an albatross, our d core had a pair that included Biega and Bowey. Yzermans moves compared to what? What was the alternative? No lottery luck and lost its luster as FA destination.

  11. It is hilarious reading the opinions of the people who dont follow the Wings. But would it not hurt to do just a little bit of research before tweeting a terrible take?
Its quite clear the direction that Yzerman is taking. He literally tells us what hes doing in his pressers.
Also, as a side note, i think he would have taken stutzle 1st overall if they didnt drop to 4th

  12. Don't forget, if some of these kids outplay the people he brought in this offseason Yzerman/LaLonde will put them in the line up. Also, the deals that have been made (outside of a couple) are no more than 1-2 year contracts with a decent cap hit. That makes the non-core players easier to move at/before the trade deadline either as a sweetener to bring in someone else, or to sell off for draft capital. I suspect that Soderblom and Edvinsson (I know I butchered spelling) will compete for starting roles.

  13. Yzerman never stops..
he’s a slow burn and calculated GM..
Yzerplan will work out.. eventually 😂

  14. I don’t think Yzerman is a bad gm by any mean but sometimes Wings fans do seem to hold him as some sort of genius. Nothing justify the term he gave to a bunch of aging ufa’s.

  15. Detroit vs Everybody Always applies. Who cares what these folks think. Most are troll comments and people that wanna be important lol Stevie has improved this team without blowing off money. We have a farm system. We have talent that needs to develop. We are just fine. This will take time no matter what some people think

  16. Bill Armstrong catches similar flack. Say what you want about the arena, but hockey operations is doing their job, and doing it well.

  17. Chalk it up as the usual sport fans making bad takes. There are reasons sport fans, the people who tweets you showed aren't being paid by teams to scout, gm, etc. If they had the answers twitter fingers wouldn't be twitter fingers. Bad takes are bad takes, over reactions are over reactions. Some of these guys might be trade pieces during the season.

  18. The Red Wings have 7 legitimate NHL level defensemen for the first time since Lidstrom retired over a decade ago. And it’s done with crazy cap flexibility. Even Holl and Chiarot are cuttable after this season with minimal cap repercussions.

The wings have a steady, functional roster completely full of legit NHL level players all the way through the bottom lines. And tons of flexibility to make room for any rookies that are ready to step up.

I’m glad we have a functional team for the rookies to step into so they can start learning the right way to play the day they step into the NHL. That’s the best way to develop players. Learn good habits from day 1

  19. I like the moves so far, we have some quality bridge pieces. Up to Lalonde this season to make it happen as we are in a tough division.

  20. You need to add in mentoring and making them young bucks earn their minutes being so good they have to give them more minutes! That's all development to. Not to mention I've noticed having to many defense is a GOOD THING! Selling them off at trade deadline for more picks and prospects! The picks and prospects is how you build a cup team

  21. That Patrick Bacon dude is the worst kind of bacon: Burned on the outside, raw on the inside, and just someone begging for relevancy so hard that he'll go out and make the worst of the bad takes he can think of. He claims to be trying tto be "wrong about hockey less frequently", yet he goes out there and pulls this nonsense? I don't care if JFresh uses his models or whatever, it's some grade-A attention seeking nonsense, and he deserves the ratio.
