Nah I don’t think so. Probably knew the door was open but if he got the autonomy he asked for then he’d still be a leaf.
As a leaf fan I’m so happy to see him gone, he knew 100%.
Not exactly, but definitely said the « right thing » at the time, while I was looking for new job I have never told my boss about it till it was confirmed. Its the same thing but I didn’t have to have a press conference while it was happening.
A GM giving a surface level, professional response to a question when he and everyone else knew he was either going to get a promotion or leave. Whether he knew he was gone or not, he would have been crucified if he said “I already know I won’t be back”. He gave the Leafs time, but probably already had the offer from Pittsburgh and was waiting for a response
