Hughes sending Petry to his home state, being mindful to get it done before school starts for his kids, all while taking a deal that was probably less than he could receive is all incredibly commendable.
I think building a reputation of a GM who can do right by his players is very important. Petry has done a ton for this team, and this was the right thing to do.
All that considered he got (basically) a 2nd, two 4th’s, and fucking Mike Matheson for (basically) Petry and Hoffman. Thats wild to me, excellent return.

Bergevin did the same thing when he traded Kovalchuk to the caps saying it was for the player and that he could have got more elsewhere.. it changed nothing.

He’s an ex agent, he knows how to set standards that player will consider when free agency hits.
I’m convinced some teams with injuries could’ve offered more after one or two injury but he’s been right by the player while still acquiring assets. These couple transactions are an asset management masterclass, you’re not always going to get a homerun with those but he fared very well.
Remember when the team a few years back was millions under the cap for back to back years and everyone was shitting on the team for not using it? The only drawback is the retention slot but there’s still another left if needed (Monahan I guess?) so whatever.

Some of those websites are just terrible.
I get notifications for Habs stuff on my iPhone and those clickbaity french website taught me to never click on them cause I will 100% of time not get anything of value.
I’m trying to encourage french media more and more but they make it so hard. TSLH is good and sometimes and I mean sometimes DLC is useful.

Anyone including the first trade for Petry in the 2nd trade are ridiculous. This is one trade where we got Lindstrom, and a conditional 4th for Petry and 2.4m for 2 years. That’s it. And that’s not that great, it’s fine but if we’re going to be honest with ourselves and not biased Kent Hughes jock riders, it’s not a great return. And that’s fine… but don’t say this trade included Matheson. They are 2 separate trades. We didn’t owe Petry anything.
