Huh? The link is blank…must be the whole list then

Actually surprised there are some good arguments made. He definitely wouldn’t be my first choice due to his temper, but I can see how some coaches would feel that can translate to passion-which seems to be missing in the Canucks dressing room for the past few years under Horvat’s Captaincy.

If we’re going by statistics alone, JT has proven he is the top scorer since arrival ahead of Petey and Quinn, but also categories both with never touch, such as hits and fighting majors. Do those matter? Maybe not, but there are those rare games when you need to drop the gloves to send a message.

I still think this is going to be Quinn or Petey leading the team for the next chapter, but it’s good to know Canucks have more potential candidates who would make great A’s if not the C.

    Uh-oh. There’s a pattern – and we’re on the wrong end of it…:

    – Trevor Linden C – didn’t ask to be traded
    – Mark Messier C – wanted to go elsewhere and left on bad terms
    – Markus Naslund C – didn’t ask to be traded
    – Roberto Luongo C – asked to be traded and left on poor terms
    – Henrik Sedin C – didn’t ask to be traded
    – Bo Horvat C – asked to be traded and left on bad terms
    – JT Miller C – ?

It’s gonna happen and you guys are gonna hate it. Not me, nope, I am gonna love it.

Give the C to the guy that wants it and deserves it as much as Petey or JT might… Quinn. JT has said he doesn’t know how he’d be with the C, Petey has said he needs to think about it.. Quinn hasn’t. He’s become more vocal and taken on a leadership role. It’s clear he WANTS to be captain. Give it to him. Give it to the guy that’s on the ice the most and is your #1D.

At this point I honestly feel like it might be disrespectful for Quinn to NOT be the front runner for it.

I feel like Rick loves Quinn for the role

He does have a lot of good qualities and I appreciate the emotion, but the sulking and poopy attitude displayed last year makes it a big no-no for me.

This decision feels similar to the Henrik vs Kesler for captain. Obviously Henrik worked out very well in terms of team and personal success, but it’s hard to say if Kesler being captain wouldn’t have resulted in the same team success

Big no. Having emotion and being hyper competitive is one thing. Lazy ass back checks and throwing tempter tantrums on the ice for the whole world to see is not captain material.

I see what the article is getting at but I’m just not comfortable giving the C to a guy that backchecks as lazily as he does. It sets a bad standard for the rest of the team. I’d rather see Pettersson or Hughes get it

To me, JTM is a better option for the A. By not being the « main » guy but one of the mainstays, he can better instill his fiery passion positively without being the de facto leader.

  12. boggz73

Why give the C to a player that will most likely be gone in five years? Hughes makes the most sense as he possesses all the characteristics you’d want in a leader including being an honest and non-cliche riddled interview. And Hughes could potentially be in Vancouver long after JT has moved on or retired.

I’ll maintain my argument, that we need an angry frustrated player for captain. It only matches the angry frustrated fanbase perfectly. Someone who will get angry when the team doesnt show up.

All we’ve had for 3 decades is squeaky clean, boy scouts. I say go with something new, if the old ways dont work. Give me the pissed of guy!

He’ll score, he’ll fight, he’ll yell at opponents, at refs and even his own teammates! You just know he’s the one yelling in the locker rooms inbetween periods. Someone that really hates to lose.

And just on a side note, Ive been bored by post-game captain interviews for 30 years. Cliche’s galore. Miller… is actually a good interview. He says it like it.

Petey or Hughes?… Amazing players, but terrible interviews and no charisma or incite.

    Captain Miller!

I wouldn’t want JT as captain but I wouldn’t be upset. We need the next Gen leading the group and miller keeps his A. It would be hard to strip the man when Hughes or petey steps up. But all 3 would be amazing but regardless of who gets the C they all need an A next season of we don’t name a captain
