  1. It’s Opening Night for 2023-24. Are Matthews or Nylander or both signed to extensions? Or are they unsigned for the year?

  2. Brad treviling lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk, there's no way he's gonna be able to sign Matthews and Nylander

  3. I want to win lots of titles but I want to be the highest paid player in the league. Take a page from Tom Brady's book. He took less pay so he could have a solid o-line to protect his "blindside" and get the good players around him to win championships. When guys like Aaron Rogers or Austin Matthews says they wanna win, I don't believe them as they just want the money. What ever happened to you wanting to play the game that you love? I get that they don't want to leave money on the table but if you want to win championships, you can't do it by sucking all the money out of the budget.

  4. People look to their leaders and copy them. Has MLSE ever lowered prices for tickets in response to about 55 years of playoff futility? No. Then why would the workers not follow this leadership and maximize their earnings. Clearly the Leaf organization is focused on making the most money possible and so should the people who people come to see.

  5. This all comes down to what it means to individuals to win the cup or not. I have absolutely NO idea why these kids don't sacrifice some wage to truely want to win. You can say it all you want about your dreams to win a cup, but who were the finalists last year? Florida and Vegas. Superstars with super talent don't matter if they don't care about the team. Show up, produce well, 10 million bucks a year. Conversely, how about more contract incentives, base salary, and you prove you are worth it as a team, you get really healthy bonus money, like a cut of the extra money from revenues the further you go.

Bottom line is, watch the videos Gretzky and Messier talk about losing to the New York Islanders. The Islanders were to busted up to celebrate.

That's why the Panthers and the Golden Knights made last year's final.

  6. If youre gonna clickbait on non news please stop with the lukewarm takes its nauseating

  7. Why do I keep hearing "If they give them a raise they won't be able to go out & get other guys to win?" Who else do you want? You have FOUR superstars that were point per game players last year. Tavares was once the absolute SAVIOUR of the Islanders with Gretzky called him 3rd ebst in the league after Crosby and Ovechkin. There's no ADDING to this roster to get there in the playoffs. It's figuring out how to make this EXCEPTIONAL core work.

  8. If you were a local superstar making millions by never winning anything, you too wouldn't want to leave.

  9. The the Core 4 contract reason issues you discussed here – the Leafs truly are fun and interesting to follow. Doesn’t this all just lead to more playoff disappointments?

  10. Will,they win a cup!Are they snake bit!The pressure is on,and I mean pressure!The last time Toronto,won a cup,I was 19 years old,the old guys won the cup,with Johnny Bowering goal,Mahovolich,Bauer,Nielsen,old guys! I am from Chicago,and Iloved these guys!Old,Old,Old 6 team guy!Go Saint Pats!

  11. I genuinely think a decent portion of the NHL would love to win the cup but it isn’t their number on priority. We’ve seen that more and more as times get more modern. Guys just clearly are more money focused than win focused and why not? It’s really just a trophy. It’s not 20m dollars it’s a trophy. I’ll take the money too Matthews.

  12. TML fans should be hoping both these creampuffs leave, and they get back guys with skill "and" heart. Idgaf if both these guys stay, they've been there for a while now, and have accomplished nothing, outside barely beating a depleted and tired Tampa Bay Lightning. When they faced a team that wasn't broken down, they got spanked in nearly 4.

However, Toronto fans are dumb, and arrogant, so, they think that these two guys, who have done nothing of note for the team, are the path forward to a cup. Absolutely hilarious.

For any Toronto fan out there who has brains, and realizes what a bane these two are on the team, well, I do feel bad for you.

For all the loud-mouthed, obnoxious, arrogant fans who start every year bragging about how "this is the year", I look forward to laughing at you for the 20th straight season (and counting).

  13. I think its best if Toronto trades both and go through a pure rebuild.
This core for the playoffs arent good.
Toronto is basically making the playoffs every season, but its the playoffs. Rebuild for the playoffs, and maybe it'll be a different outcome in the post-season.
Keep them this year, give em all the money they want for 1 year next year, then trade them.

  14. I don’t blame matthews for trying to get as much money as possible if he stays in Toronto. Why take a discount if you still probably won’t win a cup, or even more than one round 👐

  15. I don't even care anymore. They don't care about winning they care about money. Don't remember Crosby holding out for more money and all the drama we are seeing with these two.

  16. Calling it. Two bridge deals to try and win now. Once Johnny Toronto’s contract is up then they’re going to try and strike it big. Tavares contract isn’t an anchor by any means but out of the core 4, he’s the least needed rn. Also am I the only one who thinks Morgan Reilly is snubbed from the core 4? Dude is a MONSTER

  17. I hope Matthews contract is 5+ years and the first 2 years are 11m and it goes up from there significantly after that as the cap goes up. I personally prefer if Nylander is traded for a top nhl ready prospect and a couple of 1st round picks or a 6-7m defenceman and a couple 1st rounders.

  18. They should give Matthews the C if they seriously want him to lead them to the cup. Give him the C, give him the cash and say ok man…your it…take us home.

  19. Season ticket holders should cancel them …until Nylander and Mathews sign for a reasonable number…it is a privilege to play in a market that pays such high endorsements. Imagine if fans moved in solidarity… LoL
