This situation has gone on long enough I have a bad feeling we lose both players if deals aren't sign by the start of the season. Than it becomes a huge Destruction for the season. I can only dream but a perfect seranio would be they both sign to team friendly deals to help bring in more peaces to make this a championship team. The Agents and GM needs to get talking and figure this all out its dragged on long enough in my mind

In my ideal world, the Leafs sweat al year and after their annual elimination in the playoffs, Matthews leaves, choosing to become an UFA. The Canadian media has bragged for decades how THIS will be the year. Could there be anything more comical than seeing two of the core four chose to leave Canada for the money elsewhere?

If a trade were to happen for either player, the only way the Leafs could get a reasonable return is if the acquiring team is able to sign the player past this year. There is absolutely no guarantee of this. Either of the players can choose to refuse to sign past this year, making their value on the low end. They will likely play hard ball either way as their agents will likely advise this, and rightfully so. I think this is the make it or break year. Next year, the team will look very different.

By staying with the Leafs – Matthews play/ranking is declining publicly. Most understand the situation & won’t be surprised if both these players just finish out their contracts & move out to a higher bidder just like JT did coming to the Leafs.

Their is trade rumors that send William Nylander and prospect ORRIN CENTAZZO 4th round pick in 2024 and 6th round pick in 2024 to Jets for Mark scheifele at 50% cap hit for leafs and Dylan Demelo at 75% cap hit for the leafs or the rights to sign Logan Stanley but it could be both and William Nylander than sign a 4 years at aav of 10.5M with the Jets and Timothy Lijegren to sharks for Mario Ferraro and Conner Timmins to canadiens for Michael Pezzetta and Nick Robinson to Flyers or Stars for 2nd round pick in 2024. If true or not we will see.

Nylander to the islanders rumours
Trade Willy and get a 2 way forward that can score 30 goals and play in the corners and back check. Willy scored 40 goals, but was on the ice for how many goals against? Sign Matthews for 13M for 5 years. If Matthews wants more…trade him! We haven't seen a Stanley Cup with these two guys and it's time Matthews delivers.
To me this is rudimentary. The Matthews deal is allegedly done, but not yet officially signed. Likely 13.5M x 3 or 4 years. It's roughly 15% of the 2024 cap which will be about 88.5M. He is the best player on his team, top 5 in the NHL (my opinion) & as of July 1st has a no move that kicked in. Even if Treliving had wanted to move him, what exactly do you think a guy with one year left & a NM would have brought you in a trade? The answer is, absolutely nowhere near his value, so extending him was the right thing to do. Period. MacKinnon, who has 225 goals to 299 for Matthews over the same time period, signed his extension in 2022 with a flat cap still in effect including 2023 & agreed to a 12.6M aav, so Matthews, with the cap going up likely 5M next spring is just 900K more. He's hardly holding up the Leafs for ransom assuming the numbers are accurate.
The guy that some people value more (I don't) is Nylander, however he is the only movable guy of the 'core 4', doesn't play acceptable D in my view, but has elite offensive skills, so he's the guy you trade as he is not worth 10M+. Even as a non-checking, basically non-hitting RW, he has value because he can score. He is coming off the best season of his career & I am convinced he will be moved as it is unlikely he will move off his 10M+ ask.
Bill is similar to Phil Kessel, another guy who wouldn't buy in to playing D, even in the post-season. Because the Pens were able to play him on their 3rd line in the playoffs, with 2 responsible line-mates who played D, while going up against their opponents bottom pair D & the 3rd or 4th lines, Kessel was never better than in their back to back Cups. He was a legit candidate for the Conn Smythe in the 2016 Cup & I never thought he & Conn Smythe would ever be uttered in the same sentence. I wish Toronto could keep Bill, as he's a value guy at 7M, but I don't see him as a value player at 10.5M which is his supposed demand to extend. So long Bill.

It would be interesting to see Nylander traded to the Flames for Zadorov (50% salary retained), and some assets/picks that we could swap to Winnepeg for Sheifle.
