  1. After seeing your whiteboard, I’m thinking they might be a wildcard team next year.

  2. All I can say LA is please don’t match with Edmonton again as a oilers fan I can’t take that stress again.

  3. What doesn’t make sense is why did the Kings get Dubois instead of Hellebuyck when trading with Winnipeg when both wanted out?

LA has some of the worst goaltending in the league and they already had some good depth upfront. Especially in Center was Winnipeg asking for too much??

  4. I went to just about every game when Jordan Spence was playing here in Moncton, I'm super high on this kid and I feel like he could emulate Letang's style very well. My basement is basically a shrine full of signed jerseys, sticks, cards, etc. 😂

  5. If Coach McLellan wants to secure an extension then LA needs to win the division and/or the west in the regular season. Winning the division may be enough. They can do that with this current squad and the farm depth they have at each position.

McLellan is not the greatest post season coach unfortunately. Can’t believe we are trusting a guy who lost a 3-0 series lead to, you guessed it….LOL

  6. Quinton Byfield is a bust. Alex Turcotte has had 3 concussions since he got drafted so he gets the benefit of the doubt. And before you label me racist know that Byfield had only 3 goals playing half the season with Kopitar and Kempe.

I’m more sold on Jordan Spence than Brandt Clarke. Spence has NHL mobility.

I Like Bjornfots game too. He gets a bad rep but he’s a good asset to have and will help them.

  7. Are they better than last year, slightly. Don’t see this team beating Edmonton or Vegas. Need more work.

  8. Amazing analysis Shannon – as always, thank you for the continuous hockey content. Some additional things to highlight from a die-hard Kings fan:
Two guys to also really keep an eye on next year for LA are Brandt Clarke and Arthur Kaliyev. Clarke could very well be a dark horse Calder candidate and I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Kaliyev end up with 30+ goals and potentially even 60+ points. Kaliyev is lethal on the powerplay and has played on the 4th line most of the last two years. He should have an excellent chance to play with either Danault or Dubois this season which could be a huge boost. Defensively sure, he's not amazing but his shot is incredible and his passing is underrated – with more ice time and better linemates, he could certainly breakout. A Byfield breakout would also be fantastic. Regardless, very excited to see what this team can do in 23/24

  9. If Blake didn't pay $2 million to store Provorov's luggage for an hour…we would have a goalie by now…

  10. As a Kings fan, my expectations for a successful season are to be competitive in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I suggest Trevor Moore as a fantasy sleeper who could net you 50+ points playing on a line with skilled teammates, and he’s no slouch himself. One of my favourite Kings on the roster.

  11. Arvidsson is good. He's very crafty on both ends. I hope Blake resigns him. PLD and either Clarke or Spence will be diffence makers. The goaltending should be better. Pete was atrocious. I dont see Byfield and Kaliyev as anything great. Yeah, PLD requested trades but he acts like he's a star and pulled that nonsense in Columbus by not trying. That really irritated me. PLD Is not a star. He gets 60 points and now he got paid term and money he did not earn. I really hope for more grlt and fight this season from the Kings. They need Mike Rickards not PLD. They went into last seasons playoffs with that losing mentality and thats why they lost. Anyone saying the Oilers were just a superior team don't know hockey.

  12. As a Kings fan I’m definitely excited for the Kings this year. However, I’m still not a fan of our goaltending.

  13. Todd gets out coached in the playoffs every year. I worry about the bench more than the net when thinking about getting out of the first round.
Todd might be good at STRATEGY, but is bad at TACTICS. Strategy gets you to the playoffs, but Tactics wins playoffs.

  14. They'll be good I think. But it's the goaltending, an AHL farmhand, a cooked starter, and a backup. That's a nerve wracking trio to go into the season with.

  15. Speaking on your point that there are a good amount of people who don't believe in arvidsson, what is the argument for why someone wouldn't be the biggest fan of him. I've always thought he played well and hard for the kings as well

  16. Hey Kings fans browsing yourself through this comment section. Ya’ll are honestly my favorite fanbase in the NHL for being so chill and friendly😊

  17. There probably is some pressure on TMac this season, mainly because he is in his contract year and the Kings could fire him without actually firing him. I'm satisfied with what he has done, but whether or not he is the coach to take them all the way to the top remains to be seen. Terry Murray did a good job rebuilding the Kings, too, but it took Sutter kicking them in the butt for them to win the Stanley Cup.

I like where the Kings are at; they should be a very good team this season. But it will be a dogfight to get out of the Pacific, with Edmonton and Vegas.

  18. I love how you went 3 of 4 for top teams im most curious about this coming season. Longtime Wings and Wild fan and the Kings have me interested despite not liking a couple players too much but loving a few others.

  19. Brown was always the Leader for the Kings. On and Off the Ice. Sutter never should have taken his C away…

  20. I think people are making much-ado about nothing when it comes to LA's goaltending Talbot wasn't fantastic last season but LA is not Ottawa the Kings are far better defensively for some context Ottawa according to moneypuck gave up the 9th most high danger shots against, LA tied for the 4th fewest, the Sens also had the 5th most D-zone giveaways, LA the 12th fewest, Ottawa were also tied for 9th most rebound goals against, LA tied for 3rd fewest. LA is a better defensive team and Talbot was pretty good when he was with the Wild again a better defensive team than Ottawa

  21. Not a fan, but one of the better managed franchises, imo. I wish my team had Danault as our third line center.

  22. People need to calm down on goaltending. It's clearly a weakness of course, but the beginning of last season is a good indicator of the worst case scenario. For the first 3 months, Quickie and cal were both abysmal, the skaters made a lot of defensive mistakes(Todd's system wasn't applied) and the schedule was super heavy. Well with all these, the kings were still in the playoff race (13-10-4 on December 6th when copley played his first game).

  23. These previews are great.

Talbot is a good cheap holdover until Kopi's new contract kicks in. That, combined with the cap increase next year, sounds like Hellebuyck Money to me. I think this team will be a force in the Pacific this year and a contender next.

  24. As always, a fascinating report, Shannon. In fact, it was the most comprehensive thing I've seen for this coming season's Kings' team. After following them for 56 years, quite frankly, your conjectures are as good as anyone's. Each year, I would fall in love with new players, carry hopes and desires forward, and then the lousy owner would trade them away and begin again. But over the years with the Anshutz group, I have truly felt as if they were trusting and put a lot of faith in their management team. This is a good thing. I also appreciate that they have ended up rehiring many of the Kings' heros over time-dating back at least to 1982. Since we can never get all the hoopla of an "original 6" team, the next best is to return fan favorites and give them a chance to build what they, themselves were not able to achieve. As I do on every channel, there still remains (at least) one Kings' player who was never brought back-and he might truly hate us for what was done to him-but then, shipping him out got him the Stanley Cup…so what a reward that was for being kicked in the teeth and sent packing! Anyway, overall, my personal feeling is that the Kings' team has done a terrific job and managed to clean up some cliches along the way. Yes, I do still like Dean Lombardi, but he went from hero to goat by trying to cover his own flaws with bad moves/trades until he drove us to near ruin. Otherwise, I think the team has recovered and deserves respect for so many decisions. Ok, they shoulda moved up to take Bowen Byrum, they shoulda picked Tim Stuetzle over QB-though I like he and his family-and there are many others/I could go all night with. But they brought back Trevor Lewis (another Kings' hero) and that makes up much for me. If he retires next season, as a King, and goes to work within the organization, the team has maintained my loyalty. Note: my first Kings' game I saw Terry Sawchuk beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, around Feb., 1968. I was hooked on hockey for life. I wonder what will be the last game I see for the Kings? p.s. best wishes to the wife and kittens 😊

  25. Glad you mentioned Spence. I think everyone is talking about Clarke making the team right out of juniors but Spence has played great in the juniors and last year in the AHL and has done everything the coaching staff has asked of him. I hope they give him an objective.

  26. I'm also hoping for Kaliyev to be a sleeper. He is a pure goal scorer with a ridiculous shot but his shooting percentage is only around 10%. If he can get off the 4th line and play on a consistent line with players like Fiala and PLD I think he can get his % up to 15% and in an 82 game season that could mean 25-30 goals.

  27. This is a huge season, goaltending is the biggest question mark for sure & yes we need to get to the conference final our cores time is ticking…

  28. Shannon eventually you’ll like the kings as one of your top 5! I’m confident! Us kings fans are amazing!
