No amount of « hind-sight is 20/20 » will diminish what Calgary managed to get for Tkachuk. There is no doubt in my mind that Calgary made the best possible move and they did fleece Florida. Tkachuk isn’t the reason why Florida went as deep in the playoffs. The East is so pathetic that all the « powerhouse » teams pulled a 2011 SCF Vancouver Canucks against Florida 😂

    Hindsight is always 20/20.

all of these takes are mostly accurate if sutter doesn’t exist

  4. last-expert84

It was a great trade….. If you’re Florida. Lol

One of my life goals is to be featured on one of these retrospectives

  6. amach9

To be fair, the panthers just made it into the playoffs and needed that Hawks win over the Pens.

    Hahahahahaha… I hate it here 😭

Side note I do think huby will bounce back this year and weegs should have a good year potentially on that first pairing, it’s looking pretty good for Florida atm but we could still bounceback

Lol both teams flopped in a way. Both were divisional champions or were really high up there and were looking set for the future. Now they both finish in the same area this years standings with the only difference being that Florida went on a miracle run

I love seeing these braindead takes once every so often.

I still think Calgary can get Value out of this trade. I think Huberdeau is in for a bounce back year with sutter gone

I had a similar take on Twitter. I really thought Calgary won that trade, but at least for the first season after, I’ve been very wrong.

The crazy thing is Calgary was ahead of Florida in the standings at the end of this year. But the West needed more points to get into the playoffs.

  13. waffleboy1109

I though my this was a good trade for Florida until Huberdeau signed a long-term deal to stay in Calgary. Then I thought it was an absolute win for Calgary. But you can grade a trade on one season. Let’s see how this post ages five years from now.

I still say the Flames salvaged the bad hand they were dealt masterfully.

    Coach Sutter sank the team.

This trade was absolutely praised around here when it happened. GM Boston pizza turned Tkachuk (who was know to be leaving) into a top pair caliber D man and a player who just put up 115 points. Just because it’s flopped so far doesn’t mean it wasn’t solid at the time

I like how the first page is all leafs fans. Truly the best takes of all the fans.

Weegar’s the only acquisituon i’m impressed with, out of that bunch; willing to give Huby another chance, but the whole narrative of ‘performace decline due to coaching conflicts’ irks me. The man fell into a sweet contract and basically farted for an entire season.( I know there’s a lot more tp it than that, and actually looking forward to seeing how he does this season)

Kadri’s always been a selfish player, and the sooner he finds another team, the better, as far as i’m concerned.

But, y’know, gfg, and all that.

Imagine talking that much shit as a leafs fan.

I’ll admit I had similar thoughts to a lot of these people. I picked Calgary to win the west last year after the moves they made.

I don’t think they’ll ever be looked at as the winners of this trade, but they were going to lose Tkachuk one way or another. Last season felt like the perfect storm of failure from them. Aside from Toffoli, pretty much every other player had a disappointing year. If Huberdeau can bounce back to the 80-90 point range, and Markstrom rebounds, they have a shot at making the playoffs
