Foerster puts up 7 points in 8 NHL games: “Projected to play NHL games” tier it is!

I feel like a lot of people, national scouts chief among them, are sleeping on Emil Andrae

Feels like some of the older prospects aren’t having their attributes updated since they were drafted. I know Foerster’s skating was considered “poor” in 2020 but I thought there was a general agreement that, even though it’s not a strength, it’s no longer a liability. If Pronman has him categorized in the “projected to play NHL games” tier, I strongly believe that Foerster will easily surpass that expectation and become a solid middle-six contributor.

That aside, it’s awesome to see how high Pronman is on Michkov and Gauthier. Two guys who were drafted high, and still seem likely to go even higher in re-drafts down the road.

  6. Micksar

Pronman is too bearish on Foerster and sleeping on Andrae. Also, no mention of Zamula or Attard is interesting.

I think there’s close to a contending future offense currently brewing in our prospect pool.

-Frost Tippett Cates and Farabee all look to be potential long term mainstays in the top-9 to various degrees

-Foerster Brink Barkey Desnoyer and Ciernik all have varying chances to become that as well

-Gauthier has somehow exceeded expectations in his D+1 season and is primed for a monster year this year. Dude has all of the tools to be a top line forward at the NHL level

-Matvei Michkov is a Philadelphia Flyer.

Take all of that into account that adding talent on offense via the open market is always easier than adding on defense and the fact that TK and Couturier may still factor in later down the road, and there’s legitimate hope for the future of this forward core. I think there’s a bit of an abundance of « traditional shooters/goal scorers » as opposed to playmakers, and I think adding a natural top-6 Center prospect (especially a right handed one) would go a long way long term, but that’s just nitpicking.

Defense is going to be the much bigger question/concern long term. Developing defenders is more difficult and takes longer than forwards in general, and as of right now we don’t really have anyone who has true top pairing (let along 1D or an elite 1D) potential other than maybe York, and even then I think he probably tops out around an analytic darling #2. Andrae and Bonk have legit middle pair potential, and there’s maybe 5 other guys who could be bottom-pairing players long term, but this group is several drafts and some really solid development away from building the sort of blue line we heard Keith Jones envision earlier this offseason.

This upcoming draft could potentially go a long way towards building that group up, but it’s obviously not going to be as simple as « this draft has good defense, so we’re going to get good defenders ». As of right now I think adding any one of Levshunov, Jiricek, Dickinson or Kiviharju in the top-10 would be great, but you have to factor in the reality that depending on a number of factors, it’s very possible we find ourselves in a position where it’d be more logical to take one of Celebrini/Eiserman/Demidov/even Catton (this kid is underrated).
