WN would be a great grab for any team
Leafs put themselves in this situation. They thought they'd have a Cup by now, some hoped the Cap would be over $100 million, and it backfired paying them without any playoff wins. I want them back but not with more money being spent, Nylander can take $8 million, Matthews $9 if they want to win and still get stinking rich. But that won't happen.
They cashed in already I think they will all resign contracts that allow cup winning support players….or they will leave….There will be hell to pay when the upcoming contracts run out with no Glory and all this tallent.

The Leafs cannot only sign Nylander – they won’t be able to sign Matthews either. Matthews Said years ago – I’m going south or west. He wants to REALLY grow a REAL moustache! In any case, TML is $3MM over the dap – and that’s if Murray is still on IR or bought out! I can hardly wait to see what happens, but I believe @TDL, they trade both and are compelled to retain MILLIONS to get rid of them. Yes. They will probably get a couple first and seconds for them, maybe even a prospect. Then what. Still an extremely high payroll and very few good prospects. That means – TML sells off – and starts all over again. Watch out for tanking! TML is very good at that!!!
I think as long as we can get a young forward who can put up at least 40 plus points and a solid 1st pair right hand D for Rielly to pair with it is worth getting rid of Nylander. Why does Shanahan still have a job? How is none of this teams playoff failure his fault? TML have to win this year because the longer the drought goes the less chance anyone will want to play here at all. As is no one wants to ever re-sign and new players always place TML on the NTC. The only way to change that culture is win now no matter what you have to trade or do.
I've been calling Matthews walking away a free agent for these past two years. It's be a bonus to see Nylander going also. Remember the celebrations when the core four were first signed and the media and the Toronto fans acted like they'd won something? Not so. You overpaid. Those that actually hoist Stanley Cups are winners.
I'm assuming Nylander wants 11$ and Matthews wants $13.5.

This is what happens when you are so dumb you pay players 50% more than they are worth in the free market. Toronto think they exist in a bubble and think they can pay their stars anything they ask for. Maybe so just to get bums in seats, but no chance of winning the cup with that strategy. Mcdavid is the poster boy for how much you can pay a player and still win the cup. He has never ever even come close, and that is based on an over payment of $82, 000 per point. People compare future contracts with contracts that are already bad, with no hope of winning the cup because the bad contracts take up too much of the cap and prevent the managers to fill the roster with a competitive enough team. If one pays the already too much $82,000 per point based on Mcdavids production it would be a reasonable amount based on an already over paid market price for productive players. Paying that much will likely result in not winning the cup like Mcdavid has experienced. Ya since Nylander is actually the leafs best value forward and the only one they can trade, he will be traded. That is a forgone conclusion based on simple arithmetic.
Anaheim and Toronto have had a good working relationship for years now, reeaalllllyyy like to see my Ducks kick the tires on Nylander. Send em 1 our stud D men prospects, maybe Mintyukov, and a draft pick or 2. Got the cap space to give him what he wants in an extention.
