  1. Excited to see if Neighbors and Bolduc can contribute this season but it’s hard to see the blues getting back to the playoffs with the same d-core from last year. It just didn’t work

  2. i hope people give more patience to army than i think they will. he’s a great GM and I’m scared switching him out could trigger a rebuild which would be tough

  3. I honestly believe that the pandemic stopped St. Louis's momentum after their Stanley Cup win. I believe they might have won another one by now .

  4. I think this is a bad team…Bunch of Older players, plus Binnington hasn't played well since his rookie season in 18-19…I like Kyrou but that's pretty much it.

  5. I look at this roster and it will not finish higher than 7th place in the Central.

The defense didn't get any better on paper but the coaching changes may address this, especially the issues with easy backdoor goals. Teams will exploit Binnington's temper to their advantage whether it's an extra slash after a whistle, chirping him, or extra motivation to score on him and make him throw a tantrum. Hofer has a bit of a temper as well.

The offense has major issues as many players will look for "The perfect pass" and would result in something like a 3 on 1 not ending in a shot attempt at all. It felt like nearly everyone on the roster had this issue, but Thomas and Kyrou especially had this issue almost like they were scared to shoot the puck.

Special teams across the board need to be better. Power Play was effected by the previous issue I mentioned about the players being afraid to shoot the puck which would result in many turnovers leading to shorthanded breakaways or 2 on 1s against. The PK was the 3rd worst in the league, doesn't get more definitive than that.

  6. 5th/6th is very optimistic, and while Binnington is a big part of the problem IMO, this roster has taken a huge step backward in the last 12 months. There’s a lot of good and productive players who were sold off last year and have not really been replaced. Barbashev, O’Reilly, Tarasenko, and Mikola all departed between Feb 1 and the trade deadline. To replace those 4 guys they’ve picked up Kevin Hayes and Jakub Vrana. Any way you want to slice it, that’s a huge number of goals and assists from last year’s team that are now gone and haven’t been adequately replaced. Then add in the drama with Krug and the soap opera in net, and… yikes.

Personally, I think Arizona is going to climb over St. Louis this season, and it’s 50/50 whether Chicago does as well. On the plus side, I think Winnipeg got worse on paper, and they may be selling franchise players at the deadline, so there’s a reasonable case to be made that the Blues will climb over the Jets this season.

  7. I think we are still about a year away from returning to the playoffs. I just want to see some steady improvement this season. The kids (Bolduc, Dean, perhaps Dvorsky) should be about ready by then. Last year was a real sh*tshow and I don't want a repeat of that.

  8. Shakeup in coaching staff occurred too. Will be interesting to see if the D scheme is different and better. I’m a Binner fan and a Kyrou doubter, mostly because of the latter’s attitude. Both Kyrou and Thomas often coasted and seemed to pout. I will be surprised if my Blues make the playoffs.

  9. I think the Blues will be treading water in the Central Division and stay pretty much where they are, unless a few teams ahead of them in the standing implode.

  10. Can we ignore the enormous pachyderm in the parlor? What if Kyrou and/or Thomas magically disappear for non-injury reasons? The Hockey Canada thing could hit the Blues much harder than any other team. (No, I don't know who was involved, and you probably don't either.)

  11. The blues are on the right track, dvorsky gives me a lot of hope for the future. Just give us some time and we’ll be back in good shape.

  12. In several ways, I think that the blues have loaded the deck in their favor. The team will either exceed expectations or be traded for picks. Maybe not great picks but picks none the less.

  13. The St Louis Blues Clues are in a rebuilding phase. They're not the same Blues team from 2019-2022. Until the St Louis Blues Clues are ready for a Stanley Cup run, they'll rebuild for a long time

  14. Can most veterans return to form? If yes, they're in the hunt, of not, then a year oof mediocrity. Also interesting if we get a goalie fight with Binnington. 6th in the Central with 78-83 points.

  15. thanks for the preview–sadly, I don't see the Blues improving much over last season with this roster–outside of Kyrou , Buchnevich and Thomas, there's little firepower on this team and they are not good defensively. No upgrades on the blueline , so, I expect much of the same as last season with no playoffs.
