Given how actual Trevor Zegras liked a post on instagram that announced Ducharme being fired… I have my doubts.

My guy, you put our best goal scorer on the 4th line, I don’t know what you call that if it isn’t slowing him down

It’s not like Ducharme purposely went yes let’s make this kid play bad. It’s his methods, rather old school which don’t work for younger players anymore.

It’s funny to me as well because people were clamouring for him to be hired under the guise of him being a “progressive newer coach” just because he coached in junior or something

Meh, the guy moved on and I listened to his interview with Tony on the Sick Podcast and it was clear that he knew he could have done things differently. We shitted on him enough, his incredibly bad record seemed like the perfect shitstorm of trying to figure out what was going wrong on top of loosing major key pieces going into the season and during.

I’ll root for him to get back to success and focus on what’s happening with the current team. I’m scarred enough as is from the past two year haha

    DD isn’t a bad guy (I don’t think).

But cmon, I’m fairly certain he had Caufield on the 4th line a lot and he wasn’t getting a lot of PP time.

    Jesus christ.

They sent him to the fucking AHL.

Talk to me about a way to kill his enthusiasm and holding him back.

I was looking up an article recently that did a deep dive into CC’s coaching under DD and MSL. Basically, DD directed CC to play a particular way, a way that wasn’t really optimized to CC’s strengths. It wasn’t to push CC down, DD just didn’t know how to coach him.

When MSL came along, he basically told CC to do his own thing, look for opportunities within the flow of the game and take advantage of it. It’s a cliche now, but its good advice for smart players: « ta game dans la game ».

DD didn’t tell CC to slow down, he sufficated him with his system. MSL lets the stars shine because you can’t really coach greatness, but you can foster it and make space for it. It might be why Andy is struggling: he’s not able to be incredibly effective without a strict structure. So we might be better off trading him for another big body who’s somewhat open to creative plays and able to improvise. As in doesn’t need to be the best playmaker, but can smell what his linemates are cooking and give them space.
