  1. People shouldn't be freaking out, he said how it is. No one could blame him if he went to pursue success elsewhere when he is done in Edmonton if it doesn't work out there.

  2. There's rumors he may take a team friendly contract in order to contend for a cup so around 5 to 6 mil for a long time deal in the future

  3. As an oilers fan I am relieved to see that the number one player would like to stay in Edmonton for at least a few more years

  4. It's all about contract negotiations these days. If he says he's gonna stay 100% no matter what, then he'll be giving up a lot of leverage for no real reason.

  5. Rather see him in edm than god dam toronto , great video brother Hawkey!!!
Oh and besides our Flames i would like more coverage on the New york teams and Kings!✌

  6. Clickbait title pisses me off. Send him anywhere but Toronto, such a trash team with a trash fanbase.

  7. I'll be honest, it doesn't mean much… his goal is to win and build a legacy as the greatest player in the game. If they do that in the next 3 years, I think he's a lock to stay for his career. If it doesn't happen I really don't think it's unreasonable to think he will move on. Also, this is just how he talks..always has. He puts out the most on the fence down the middle responses to everyhing. He won't commit to saying "here for life baby" because he's never vocally been that guy.

But I mean obviously this all means he's going to Arizona to rebuild that franchise.

  8. Seriously? It's a nothing burger. He's a smart guy, he's not going to commit ahead of time 100% to staying. He'd give up negotiating power, and something crazy could always happen to the team to make it so he decides to leave. Imagine if he committed 100% and some Calgary-style culture meltdown happened. God I can't wait for summer to be over so there's some actual news.

  9. I just find it hilarious that a lot of leafs' fans think that he will automatically sign for the leafs if he chooses to not stay in edmonton, talk about being delusional.

  10. McDavid is my favorite player since he was 13 years old. I live in edmonton and cheer for the oilers. But i couldn't give two shits if he leaves. Ill just cheer for him elsewhere. No biggie

  11. This is just me but I see as a message to Oilers management. If you can't structure the team into a better playoff contender, then I will seek to find another team that will when my contract runs out! Clearly, the Oilers d-group and goaltending is not good enough to help make a playoff run to the Cup Final!

  12. Oilers have the most watched games outside of TO and MONT. Oil country is for REAL. But McD wants to win, and if we don't bring home the cup in the next few seasons, do you think Drais and McD will want to stay? I bleed orange and blue, but I would completely understand if that was his mindset. It would be any winners mindset. Now that being said, if we do bring home the cup at least once… maybe twice, then yes I'd say 97 & 29 will stay.

  13. we wants to win the cup within 3 years if he cant win in 3 hes gone maybe tampa gets him, kucherov mcdavid cirelli

  14. Guy spoke the truth. Nobody knows where they're gonna be in 3 weeks, much less, 3 years. Anyone trying to stir this pot, is doing merely that, stirring the pot. If anything, he was transparent about it, and EDM fans should be thankful for that. He doesn't pull a Gaudreau or Tavares.

If he leaves in 3 years, he leaves. He's giving the absolute best years of his career to this franchise and city. Even if he does leave, you'd have to be a special breed of ahole, to be upset about it. Especially in today's NHL.

  15. It literally is nothing. Obviously he’s not saying Yeah I’m re-signing for 8 years and staying till he retires, or saying he’s walking in FA in 3 years.

  16. Mcdavid will never win the cup so long as he takes almost all of his teams cap for good players

  17. If he doesn't come to Toronto after this contract. I could see him doing a one year in TO when he is 40+ years old. But I wanna see McDavid and Draisaitl win a cup first in EDM.

  18. McDavid literally just told the truth, no bullshit, no in between the lines. He let go of the robotic stoicism for a second and got real.

He's saying he wants to stay in Edmonton, but if something happens within two or three years that changes his mind then so be it. If his parents get sick, if Lauren needs to move, if his relationship with Oilers management turns sour then he'd inform the team about his intentions to move on. The idea that McDavid already has the idea in his head to move is stupid, and that's why he added the caveat at the end that he's dedicated to winning with the team. He doesn't want to lie to people, but his mind isn't 100% made up yet and that's fine, saying otherwise could jeopardize his future contract negotiations and importantly he seems like he doesn't want to betray anyone.

  19. I’d respect and root for him even if he stayed or left. As long as he doesn’t sign with the Leafs because that would end my love for hockey. But I respect him and honestly I’d love for him to win the Stanley Cup either in Edmonton or somewhere else.

  20. 14 million USD a year and yall are scared hes going to leave? You really think he cares about a cup more than 14million a year? Unless some other team outbids the oilers and its highly unlikely given how close every team is to the cap.

  21. If you are an Oilers fan how is the team going to afford McDavid and Draisaitl when their contracts are up? Especially with Nurse and Bouchard.

  22. Thats him being smart and saying I love playing here but Im not going to lock myself in here so you can pay me less or stay here if the team isnt the best fit for me to be the best player I can be

  23. There has to exist at least some possibility of McDavid leaving Edmonton in the minds of ownership, in order for his next contract negotiations to be balanced. It's somewhat of a bargaining chip. It's not a given, but I'm fairly confident he will actually end up staying because of an attachment to the organization, and a sense of identity he has as an Oiler.
