   The D isn't deep enough for when it counts in the playoffs. If the Nylander situation can't be worked out then it makes sense to move him for an impact top 4D, other than that there isn't much they can or will do.

   we should have never let Luke walk everyone thinks he left because of money am sure its abit true I heard his biggest reason was term because he was sick of moving his family around I think if Toronto offered the term he would have taken less to stay

   You don't need a lot of brain cells to know the blue line is nowhere deep enough. Zadorov would've been a great asset for the leafs

   All the low scoring one goal games they lost in the playoffs, they pay the so called BIG four to score and THEY DON'T. The D and goaltending was NOT their problem.

   This defense was bad but adding Klingberg makes it worse. How is taking a chance on a defense who has absolutley sucked a good idea at 4.15M. No player who was slumping ever came to TML and played better. There is just too much pressure in TO by the media and by fans. This team is a joke yet again. Expect another early exit in playoffs if this is what we are going with. The only toughness added on blueline is a player who is at best a 3rd pair and also came off a very bad year and and are hoping he can regain composure. So instead of improving our bad defense we actually have got much worse.

   Don't need a great defence or amazing goaltending in the regular season. The Leafs are a top three point team.

   The can't all play big and play mean – they will get badly punished and possibly injured, deflating the rest of the team. Reeves can only go so far for protection. Not that easy Jay and you know it.

    Its on Marner and Mathiews to raise their games and create fear, they dont..nobody is scared of Marner and its easy to shut him down in playoff games. Id trade him.

    May i quote Jeff O'Neil who after the Montreal debacle offered this insight. And I quote " Marner and Matthews are wonderfully talented offensive players. They will put up a ton of points during the regular season. They will 3 to 5 point games some nights where they catch a tired team or play a backup goalie. But in the playoffs when the checking gets tighter and you have to compete for every square inch of ice against a Corey Perry or a Shea Weber Matthews and Marner just don't have it. " Jeff O'Neil is a smart young man.

    Marner was ok in the first round of the playoffs. And at least JT got a playoff series winning goal for the Leafs – after he was paid about $77 Million without any playoff successes to show for it. The core 4 just played poorly in the second round – with game losses due to Marner giveaways and Nylander mistakes & Matthews disappearing – all leading to another playoff disappointment and early golfing season (playoff exit) by the Leafs Core 4.

    You can't compare this roster to what we finished with in the playoffs. That's when teams dump future assets to load up for a run, sometimes with guys they know won't come back. We have a better D than we started with last year with, its basically Sandin & Holl out and McCabe & Klingberg in. Trades can still happen before the season starts. Physical D are not hard to find, its about the right price, right time. Not something you overpay for. BTW – Klingberg had 59 hits in 26 games when Dallas made their run. He definitely ups his game in the playoffs.
