He was never going to be a superstar over here and potentially pissing off the Russians with Michkov isn’t worth it in this situation.

Smuggle Michkov from them, I can tell this is gonna get ugly in 3 years.

this is such a weird spot for the flyers to be in, and theres really no recourse available other than IIHF sanctions which dont mean anything to a country thats not invited to international tournaments. this is probably Russia flexing to get back into the fold, let us play internationally or this kind of thing can keep happening, because if any other leagues do this to the KHL theyll be breaking the IIHF rules and get sanctioned too. this is why the NHL is making plans for international tournaments all of a sudden, to flex on the flexers

So if we are ignoring contracts and rulings then in a year or 2 the flyers now have a precedent set for bringing over a recent 7th overall pick

This is the weirdest dick swinging contest of all time. Like what is the KHL trying to prove here anymore? I understand keeping Fedotov during the draft dodging scandal. There is precedent there. But now that it’s passed why keep him? It’s not like they’re preventing other players from coming over, Miroshinenko was proof of that. It’s not like they’re keeping star goalies, Askarov is here. It’s not like they’re cutting ties with the nhl. It’s just this one guy. This guy is worth costing them a ton of money and exposure in internationals. This guy who would be a tandem goalie in the AHL on this team right now. This guy is worth taking the stand on? I don’t get it.
Like its easy to say Russia wants to keep their stats to make more money in Russia but the amount they pull in for contract deals to the NHL is insane. They’re throwing it all away for a political soap box, and it’s for Ivan gosh darn Fedotov?! Shortsightedness has reached critical levels

I don’t think he wanted to come over at this point, maybe last year but not anymore, he could have easily come and didn’t he left the country for vacation and all. Flyers should move on instead of getting into a pissing match with the KHL.
