LOVE 70's Hockey !
Funny how the 6 expansion teams in 67 struggled because the only got castoffs and minor leaguers. Add a Perrault to the mix and boom, instant playoffs.
Wayne- I think you were great. But Orr and Perrault were the best hockey players I ever saw. 1960-1988 were the glory years for hockey. Today the players are super big, super fast. The rinks too small. The goalies too big with bulky equipment. The rinks need to get bigger and the net (yes the net) needs to get bigger. And while were at it- get rid of the annoying advertisement on the boards.
the rinks were smaller in1988 but in would be better if they were like detroit boston chicago and buffalo today without the red line.
The Sabres had some really good teams back in the day and it is surprising that they have never won a Stanley Cup.
I love this era. I could watch this stuff all day. But check this out. Starting at 2:15 the great Gilbert Perrault takes the puck from behind his own net and effortlessly brings it up and there's not a St. Louis defender close enough to him at any point to even be in the camera shot, until he gets to the far blue line. Todays players work harder and play much tougher defense.
The Aud crowd cheering goals by the Blues? I think NOT! (Why did they add that?)
They gave the Habs a hell of a run that year..
I wish the fans of the Buffalo Sabres we're excited like this again I wish we could hear the excitement in Rick jeanneret voice again. It's too bad we probably won't win a cup for him his voice in the excitement was legendary. I miss my old Buffalo Sabres when the arena would be packed when you can only get Standing Room in the old Memorial Auditorium I miss the AUD I miss the excitement of going inside the arena the smell the sounds I just wish we can bring this passion back to this fanbase
They got the band from Star Wars for this one.
This edition of the Sabres laid.the foundation for the franchise’s first trip to the finals in 1974-75. Although they fell short against the Flyers Buffalo remained a contender for a number of years.
What a shame this team never won the cup. Such a rich history.
Rene Robert rest in peace with linemate Ric Martin.
Love the music, did the Sabres collaborate with Jethro Tull? Lol
only one thing to say…….jazz flute!!!
Played on April Fool's Day! I have the game program, it has a Maple Leaf on the cover as a joke?! Lol!
I am the youngest of five kids, and at age 11 watching Buffalo play Montreal in the 1973 playoffs on Hockey Night In Canada, with all four of my older siblings cheering on Montreal, seeing Buffalo beat Montreal in overtime in game 5 3-2 in Montreal, I said 'That's the team for me!' And I've been a Sabres fan ever since! Some rough going at times, for sure, but with the young talent assembled by Kevyn Adams, the right coach, Don Granato, and the right mix of veterans, I know that Buffalo will be back in the playoffs again!
this music SLAPS
I don't know what's more enjoyable in this video, the actual game or seeing the cast and production crew of The Mary Tyler Moore show in the crowd.
Sounds like Tim Ryan is the narrator.
