  1. DK, the doubt is evident in the recent playoff losses. The strength of the upper echelon teams makes the Penguins seem very far away from threatening to make deep playoff runs. It’s not so much about quoting “doubters” as much as it is a reasonable conclusion to draw from the performances season over season, declining to the point of missing the playoffs. I support Dubas’ posturing that Pittsburgh, under the new regime which will give the Penguins’ core renewed guidance and support, is a city necessary to go through in order to win the Stanley Cup.

  2. The Dubas press conference number 1 was such a joke. If you actually listen to what the content is of what he's saying rather than how it sounds, it's very worrying for Pens fans.
Eg: What about the aging players? Dubas: "it's ok Sully won't get old".

just mind blowing for an executive to come out with such a silly response.

  3. Dubas called a press conference about 4 weeks before the trade deadline last season before the playoffs, just to say 'I want to tell everyone we aren't trading draft picks to try and win in the playoffs'. What kind of inane move is that? Ok, so obviously you are going to. So that backfires immedately. And who needs a presser for that?! wow.

I said it then, don't let him trade your future away. but leaf fans railed on me for my opinion 'we need to win now!'. But we won't with that same core………. picks,, are gone. …. so those new talented cheap young players will go elsewhere and they leafs got their A** handed to them by FLA. unreal. never seen anything like it .

  4. Dubas freaking out in the box was not because he's into the game. it was because he spent 6 years tinkering with this team and making bad moves, especially in the goaltending department, without having a clue how to build a winner. That was frustration with himself not passion.

  5. As long as the rags are in the league, expect chippy. 😅

  6. press conference 1: Q: what about Sid's contract? Dubas 'oh i'm not sure, when does it end?' Reporter 'in 18 months'. Dubas 'k well no problem we'll deal with it in 18 months'.

Trust me. he should be a capologist in the back room. not a gm.
busy talking about how his wife loves pits but doesn't know when your top star's contract is up and doesn't have a clue what to do when it is?????? yikes.
that is ok, trade picks for karlsson! 😂 joker.

  7. Toronto arguably got knocked out the last two years because (at least some considerable amount) of some line stepping from the opposition. Its not just a throwaway concern tbh but I think the group is actually better off than it was last year in that regard anyway

  8. Just guessing here, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a personal thing for Dubas himself. I mean, look at the way he left Toronto. How many people would've told him he's stupid to leave that Toronto team for an overaged Pittsburgh team? Nevertheless, seems to me this could be good fuel for guys like Sid, Geno and Letang.

  9. IMO, I think there is nothing better for this upcoming season than for Crosby, Malkin & Letang to play with a "chip" on their shoulders. Plus the addition of EK. I don't think that bodes well for the rest of the league. Time will tell.

  10. You’re telling me you haven’t read any of the dozen projections done by hockey writers and sites that put the pens at the middle of the pack, most saying we’ll just make the playoffs but not go far after that? That seems like a fair amount of doubt from the hockey community to me and something that we should be excited to prove wrong.

  11. You've not seen heard or read anything of the kind??? You lost me Dejan. I agree with Dubas' statement when he says there is doubt. Any media outlet covering hockey is down on the Pens and our aging core. No one thinks they can do it. I think we can be like the 2018 Vegas Knights who were a bunch of misfits that no one wanted. We have a GM that's motivated to prove it. We had a core who wants to prove everyone wrong. We have a new bottom 6. A goalie who needs to prove it. and we have Erik Freaking Karlsson who wants to prove everyone wrong.

  12. A citation of Newfoundland (yes, easy to please) made my morning. Yes, Dubus has a sharp competitive edge! Great for us! Solid content as ever DK. You are the start of every day before the kids get up for breakfast and to start their day at school.

  13. You really didn't know people doubt them? I'd say 80% of fans think the Penguins troubles last year were because of Sid, Geno, and core. Read Hfboards. Dubas is spot on here. Not sure how you did not pick this up.

  14. Pretty much every site I’ve been to that isn’t a penguins one had a comment section full of penguins doubt. I can’t speak to what you usually read, but as far as the fans around the league go, basically everyone puts us down. From calling us a retirement home to completely irrelevant, the consensus opinion seems to be that regardless of the Karlsson trade we are washed up and won’t contend again in the Crosby era and the near future afterward. The only comments saying otherwise were from pens fans. Though I agree with some of the other comments that said a lot of doubt was coming from our fans too. I’m sure Dubas hears all that noise.

  15. Literally have no idea what you're going on about here. Why are you chuckling at Dubas like he's Barbara Billingsley speaking Jive on an airplane or something? He's right. Most people, fans and analysts alike (Vegas included), see them as past their prime, non-contenders, whose cup contention window shut at least two seasons ago. I've heard homer tossed around a lot lately when it comes to the broadcast crew (you barking for a job there?) but if you're thinking that Dubas is simply blowing smoke for the sake of creating some artificial underdog, or them against the world defiant stance, then I don't know what to tell you other than you're in the extreme minority in your opinions of the Penguins chances this season and the effectiveness of its old core compared to what the rest of the hockey watching world sees and thinks, and clearly you are the Penguins glass half-full, No. 1 fan.

This team has been out of Cup contention for at least a couple of seasons now and that's being kind, and no one is suddenly penciling them in as anything other than a longshot maybe, even with the addition of Karlsson. In Pittsburgh, fans who say things like Tanger, Sully, and Jars like to think they have a real chance this season because of all the changes and excitement around this and other signings needed to get from under most of the the Hextall damage, but most realistic and grounded Penguins fans still aren't picking them to go any further than maybe a 2nd round loss at the most. Fans that look at the competition around them in just the Metro alone, think even that would be a long shot at this stage in the core's collective usefulness. Most of the hockey world thinks this core isn't capable of getting them there or anywhere close again, and they still don't have the depth to not force them to carry the team, and thinks they simply can't anymore, point per game averages and playing all 82 or not.

The majority of the hockey world that you never heard from thinks their window is well past closed and that even adding Karlsson won't magically prop it open again. Sure he can help them be respectable, and fun to watch again (especially compared to last season), and they might make the playoffs again, but that's about it. I guess in the bubble you live in, you've heard nothing of the kind and everyone genuflects with even the simple mention of this team and the likes of mighty Crosby, Malkin, and Letang? Dubas' statements and points that this core is bordering on has-been's and the team being closer to rebuilding than winning another cup is all news to you? lol You really need to poke your head outside sometime.

  16. Uh what?? There has been TONS of doubt about the pens ability to contend. People were questioning why Dubas even agreed to come here with an aging core and zero prospects. Even after adding Karlsson, NOBODY is picking them to finish ahead of the Canes, Devils, or Rangers and they have the 13th best odds to win the cup.
