I love when news like the Sanderson contract signing happens because it exposes all the posers and clout chasers. You get these clowns saying stuff like "I watch more hockey than anyone and I have never heard of this guy" and right away you know they are a phoney seeking approval from other phoneys and irrational haters.
Jake is going to have a phenomenal season this year. His offensive improvement will surprise some.
Honestly I think this will be one of the most important moments in sens history when we look back at it.

I like Branny and for sure see the value there.. but i can understand the criticism about him too. If he was on a team where he would be the top offensive defenseman he'd probably be producing like a 5+ mil player, but there's just bo room on the Sens roster for him to do that.
Objectively, the best option for the Sens and Branny would be to showcase him a bit more this year to up his value and then do a sign and trade when guys like Kleven and JBD, wo are more suited for that bottom pairing role (especially in a phisycal playoff series), are ready to be full time NHL players.
I'm with Piller, Eric Brannstrom is awesome. Skill > Size, this is the new NHL.
That being said, pairing him with a larger physical D is probably a requirement or there may be quite a few goals in the wrong net O_o
As far as managing the goalies, I think on top of keeping the number of games relatively even, they need to make sure how they are spaced out is important as well. I don't think either guy should be starting more than 3 games in a row, even if they're on fire and the other guy just had a stinker. Don't wear the one guy out, and give the other guy a chance get back in there. There's a few games last year they lost that I think go differently if they didn't ride the hot hand too much. That game against Detroit before New Years sticks out.
What I find is interesting is that the Joseph contract wouldn’t be considered as bad if the Sens had room to sign Pinto. Is it great he didn’t score an even strength goal? No. But the fact remains that contract for Joseph isn’t the worst thing, and there are other cap management issues that are complicating the Pinto signing (that being the $5M they have in dead cap!)
I love Sanderson's potential. However you don't guaranty a teams success by having high scoring defensemen. You do so by having defensemen that can keep the puck away from their own net. Eric Karlson in SJ last year had >100 points and the team was not successful. Just saying.

I was waiting for pillzy to have his rant about how important branny is to this team.
I’m sorry but he’s replaceable at this point of where the team is at. He did get better last year but Kleven and Sandy came in and knocked the door down. Further moving him down on the depth chart.
Branny would do better career wise if he’s QB on a lesser team. Also his minutes were incredibly sheltered on the 3rd pair and made his numbers look better. (Zaitsev had 17:13, Holden 16:42 and Branny with the lowest at 16:06)
He’s always going to be tied to the Stone trade and would be best to move on from him or Kubalik. (Both on expiring contracts) he is what he is and when you have 3 better puck moving defensemen, you get rid of redundancy.

Totally agree with Pillzy on the versatility of Branny and his value next season, but I worry about him pricing himself out of Ottawa next year. I think he'll have another strong season and want long term with $$, which we couldn't offer
