I hate to say it (actually, no I don't), but we are going to have the exact same conversation about the Toronto Maple Leafs that we have every single year…They are not tough enough for the playoffs.
None of our $40 million "core four" go to the gritty areas and fight for pucks, time and space. And none of them lay the body on anybody, generally. They might break a nail…
The Leafs are going to lose this series the way they lose every series…they are going to get manhandled and beaten up just like they do every year.
For example, where was retribution for Sam Bennett after the Knies takedown? Game three would have been the time to take out some frustration on him.
Better example… When Stephen Stamkos was taking liberties with Austin Matthews for no reason at all, why wasn't he immediately decked by somebody else on the Leafs?
Ryan O'Reilly might be able to step up and provide some toughness up front, but they've buried him on the third line, so who knows how effective he will be. It's amazing how quickly the Maple Leaf mind virus has infected him…
No worries, however… We will all be back next year!
