In what could possibly be their final upcoming season in the Phoenix area, the Arizona Coyotes will finish dead last not only in the Western Conference but in the NHL with a record of 12 wins, 59 losses, and 11 overtime losses. On December 7, team owner Alex Meruelo will sell the Coyotes to Quebecor president and CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau for $1.25 billion. On April 18, 2024, the Coyotes will fire Andre Tourigny after 3 seasons as their head coach. On May 13, 2024, Pierre will pay a relocation fee of $195 million to relocate the Coyotes to Quebec City for the 2024-25 NHL season. On June 25, 2025, the NHL Board of Governors will approve the relocation of the Coyotes to Quebec City in a 29-3 vote, so after 28 seasons in Arizona, the Coyotes will relocate to Quebec City to become the 2nd incarnation of the Quebec Nordiques and play their home games at Videotron Centre in the 2024-25 NHL season, so the 2nd incarnation of the Nordiques will join the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres, the Florida Panthers, the Montreal Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference and force the Detroit Red Wings to move back to the Central Division of the Western Conference.
