  1. Excellent choice, but it doesn’t give us any extra hope regarding Elias Petterson’s upcoming contract negotiations. Having Petey get the C would have at least made clear his intentions going forward. Regardless of that, Quinn definitely still seems like a very strong choice. 👍🏻

  2. Atta boi Captain Huggy! Lead this team to our first Stanley Cup, no matter what it takes! Take us there. Show that "for free" guy you're the better captain!

  3. Perfect choice. Pick the guy that never smiles anyway to captain a losing team in a Canadian market. He’s made for this. Pettersson’s a smart guy.

  4. Hughes as Captain … Ugh, what a (*NOTHER) Canucks mistake… Drafting The Sedin's was the last good move that franchise has made… Let's throw THE WEIGHT of the responsibility of the whole team on the young, developing star, who's just growing into his potential, 'cause, that's going to make that all easier! Man… Well, hey! Maybe this will inspire Hughes to let the coaches play him 35:00 a night now!

  5. Hughes will be a leader in the mold of Naslund and Hank. All supremely talented, leading by example and carrying on the tradition of what it means to be a Vancouver Canuck. Great choice!

  6. Great young man, amazing player, and a very thoughtful guy. Love the thinking here.

  7. Is it just me or did that press conference feel like a funeral?
No one smiling, they didn't give him a captain Jersey. They constantly make references that any of the other guys could be captain. Real down vibes. This should feel like a celebration and it clearly doesn't.

  8. Captains should always be level-headed and outspoken as Hughes is He was the only one who had the balls to speak out for Pearson. He wants it and he deserves it. Petterson clearly doesn't want the Captaincy as he is not comfortable speaking for the team and rather do the talking on the ice. JT is a great soldier and will lead everyone to his standards on the ice.

  9. so happy with this choice!!! congrats to quinn, i'm super excited for this upcoming season 🙂

  10. A wonderful player on the ice, likely widely-respected in the locker room, and excellent with the media. Solid choice.

  11. Great guy GREAT player etc etc..but to be a captain one cant be shy or quiet or type b….JT. MILLER is much more vocal and open and doesnt care…to me makes more sense…..please correct me….(some of you get off the "how good is as a player etc….that alone doesnt make a captain…./

  12. Selecting a team captain is a decision that involves careful consideration of various factors, including leadership qualities, on-ice performance, and the ability to inspire and motivate teammates. While Quinn Hughes is undoubtedly a promising young talent for the Vancouver Canucks, there are several reasons why it may not be appropriate to designate him as the team's captain at this stage of his career.

    1. Experience: Team captains typically possess a wealth of experience in the NHL. Quinn Hughes, as of my last knowledge update in September 2021, was a relatively young player with limited experience in the league. Appointing a captain too early in a player's career can put undue pressure on them and may not align with the traditional progression of leadership roles.

    2. Leadership Development: Leadership qualities often develop over time. While Hughes may exhibit leadership potential, it might be more prudent to allow him to continue growing both as a player and as a leader before assigning him the captaincy.

    3. Alternatives: The Canucks likely have other candidates on their roster who possess the necessary experience and leadership qualities to assume the captaincy. It's important to consider alternative options within the team who may be better suited for this role.

    4. Performance Consistency: A captain should be a consistent and reliable performer on the ice. While Hughes has shown promise, it's important to evaluate his ability to consistently deliver top-level performance over an extended period.

    5. Team Dynamics: Team dynamics play a crucial role in leadership decisions. It's essential to assess how Hughes' appointment as captain might impact the existing team dynamics, including the relationships he has with his teammates and coaches.

In summary, while Quinn Hughes may have a bright future and potential for leadership within the Vancouver Canucks, there are valid reasons to question whether he is currently the best choice for the captaincy. The decision should be made with a focus on the long-term success and cohesion of the team, considering both Hughes' development and the broader team dynamics.

  13. Either one of Petey or Hughes would have been a good call. Happy for Quinn and looking forward to the season.

  14. He said he's committed to continue learning and if that's the case, he's going to have to learn how to not speak in a monotone voice. Part of being a good leader is being an effective speaker with the media.

  15. Ouch. I don't think this is a good thing seeing that he has to focus being a better player on the ice but now the the pressure of being a captain… He doesn't look excited.

  16. Why do they always have to say the number of the captain, coach and GM. Who cares if it is the 10th or the 92th

  17. Ahhhh …..ahhhhh our new…ahhhhh ahhhhh captain…..mmmmmm ahhhhhh quinn…ahhhhh

  18. The Hockey media is always so flat. Their is no enthusiasm. It is a sad day as he mentioned but it's also a big day. Can't expect much on 23 year old I guess.

  19. Pretty much the only was to keep him from New Jersey. It’s your team now quinn. Hope to see you for 8-10 years before you move on if you have to. Hope Elias didn’t want to wear it either.

  20. Among other things for a team trying to focus on restructuring and strengthening its team defence; making Quinn the Captain is the right move
