Tatar had 20 goals and 28 assists last season. If he were signed he would make a good add to the 3rd line and give players like Dufour and Ishkhakov more time to develop in the AHL – probably by end of the season one of them would be pushing for an inclusion in the NHL team.

If Lou can get him to sign a Parise-esque deal, league min + performance bonuses, sure. But the team is right at the cap, I think actually above per [Capfriendly](https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/islanders), I wouldn’t be surprised if Tatar was looking for ~3mil so I’m not sure how he’d fit.

I’d think the fact that Lou announced Parise isn’t coming to camp and that they have a player on a PTO indicates that he didn’t sign Tatar. I feel that was the time he’d mention it. It’s possible they are negotiating which is why Tatar hasn’t signed anywhere else, but I wouldn’t take this too seriously.
