AM #1, the rest are tied for #2

  2. REAPER-1_xxx

What is defence? I’m not familiar with this concept.

  3. Toiletboy4

If they are on the oilers, they don’t play defense – that goes for the defensemen too

  4. WillieMaysHayes24

AM- kinda the only one here who plays it

Doesn’t know what D is tier

Mack- won a cup so has the rights to second

Mcdavid – really fast, when he back checks he’s good

Hughes- same as mcdavid but slower

Tage- is so long he sometimes gets in the way

    Drai- what’s defense

  5. chrishic99

Jack is better than expected for his size. His backcheck is good, but it’s nowhere near AM.

  6. mildlysceptical22

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Draisaitl skate backwards..AM wins.

    S –

    A –

B – Matthews (actually plays defence and isn’t bad at it)

C – Hughes (is good for his size and is ok but not the best), Thompson (is a huge guy and sometimes just gets in the way but he also isn’t terrible at it), MacKinnon (extremely intelligent on the ice but lacks defensive awareness but still isn’t the worst)

    D –

F – McDavid (he seems way to scared to do anything and it looks like since he does most of the offence he doesn’t think he has to contribute defensively), Draisaitl (lol)

_**Disclaimer: I am a hockey fan, I guarantee I have no idea what I’m talking about**_

  8. m_ghesquiere

This is the tier of player that says I don’t need to play defence because I have possession of the puck 70% of the time, who cares about the other 30%.

    Other then Matthews.

  9. ogfuelbone12

Matthews, Hughes, Nate Dawgg, Draisaitl, Thompson, McDavid

AM34, J Hughes, Nate Dawgg, McDavid, Thompson, Draisaitl – final answer haha

  10. TheCanEHdian8r

Matthews, MacK (?), McDavid, Hughes, Draisaitl, Thompson

  11. Ginger-Beefcake

matthews, draisaitl, Thompson, MacKinnon McDavid, Hughes

  12. biohazard842

Mackinnon is strong defensively. His speed, compete level and IQ help him. Bad face off man though.

    Matthews wins this for now.

  13. dalcer

Matthews is miles ahead of the rest, im a habs fan but i believe hes great on defense

I would put mack 2nd when makar and toews arent on the ice, when theyre on the ice he seems to just not wanna play D (not like he plays it alot without them tho)

3rd is hughes, he seems to improve it year by year though so i believe he will get there

Mcdavid has shown he can play defense when hes got no one else to do it but if theres even one tm8 farther back then him he just wont

Tommy is the only one besides matthews that tries to play D but he doesnt seem to know how to position himself without messing up his own tm8s, for the time being its probably better if he just plays center for faceoff then lets cozens or someone play the defense

Drai doesnt have a defensive bone in his body

  14. JoeSchmohawk93

McDavid has the fastest feet on the back check and Tage has the longest arms.

  15. Brods91

Matthews, MacKinnon, McDavid, Thompson, Hughes, Draisaitl

  16. Educational_Chef4220

    Is this a joke ? I don’t get it..

  17. Hattrick_Swayze2

Leon isn’t as bad as people are claiming. Thompson is by far the worst.

Matthews, Mack, McDavid, Hughes, Drai, Thompson

  18. thesehipstheydontlie

MacK ups his D game in the playoffs, but still Mathew’s is the clear #1 here

  19. Noahtuesday123

Mathew’s is number 1 but McDavid, Draisatl, McKinnon are rarely out of position. Didn’t see Hughes or Thompson much but I’m guessing Hughes is solid, Tage bein pg a big body is solid also.

  20. Noahtuesday123

I’m surprised that Draisatl gets so little credit but would rank him last on this list because his offensive is too risky and he turns over pucks in high reward spots to the opposition.

Like a giveaway to Nurse and it’s two on one against Bouchard…wtf!

  21. TotalJimi

Nice to see Matthews getting the credit he deserves here. His defensive game isn’t celebrated enough.

  22. ImCoeld

Leafs fan here, Matthews doesn’t play PK. I know he’s not the coach but PK has to be a factor.

  23. Dazzling_Ganache_269

The best defence is a strong offence, have to give it to McDavid and Drai

  24. Smittysgreasymullet

I can just picture Bergeron jerkin it to his Selke Trophy case right now. You would think if it all meant that much he’d have won a Cup in the last 12 years. All-time team, all-time defensive forward..for what? Fucking nothing.

  25. ChocklateshipCookie

Id say the two guys you have up top are. Both of them in my mind are the best “all-around” players.

I don’t know much about Tage’s defensive play, I don’t watch much of the Sabres. As for the other three, I don’t think of them much when it comes to defensive play. I’ve seen a bit of Jack Hughes, he’s not very notable defensively. The other two are just offensive power houses.

  26. HartfordWhaler

Leon Raisaitl has to be last.

    There’s no D.
