Best penalty killer in the league? How is that quantified?
New to hockey this year, what’s a penalty killer?
I must have missed the stat where Marner scored more goals than Matthews in 2 consecutive seasons, or won face offs….
But it’s definitely going to be polarizing topic a year from now where a playoff performance will be used to set this price
They are normally the most defensive minded players on the team. They are on what is called a » special teams line. So on top of their normal lines , they do extra minutes during penalty kills. Marner and Aho are being discussed because they are absolute shit disturbers and can read plays before they happen and steal the puck , often going the other way and scoring.
Which is great because you expect to get a goal against on a pk , so getting a goal is a double positive.
It also makes the team on the powerplay look like dicks for added benefit
Genuinely backed by stats, what does matthewsdo that’s better than marner aside from goal scoring? YES ik goal scoring is the end all be all in hockey so ofc whoever scores the most will get paid the most irregardless with the most clout.
Marner is an invisible man come playoffs.
