So, this tweet works on a whole other level that’s been somewhat lost to time:
Norm was a frequent guest on Conan O’Brien’s late night shows, dating all the way back to 1993. When CONAN was winding down on TBS, many speculated that Norm would be the final guest, but he was absent from the episode. This tweet went out a few hours after the finale aired. A very clever misdirection.
Norm is my all time favorite. I’ll tell a little story of when I saw him do standup in Calgary once.
It’s a sell out at the Blackfoot Inn and some people have to sit at tables with strangers.
Norm takes the stage and starts his act and not ten seconds in some guys yells something from across the room from where I was.
Norm « What? What did you say? »
Drunken asshole « I SAID THEY’RE MAKING ME SIT WITH THESE TWO FAT PIGS! »
There are two women at this guys table he’s referring to. Right away, huge chorus of boo’s from the entire room. He starts screaming and cursing at everyone. The room takes up the chant of « KICK HIM OUT! KICK HIM OUT! ».
Security comes up and the guys tosses a beer at them as they grab him. As they are dragging him out, he’s still cursing at everyone and trying to kick anyone close. Everyone now starts chanting « NAH NAH NAH NAH, NAH NAH NAH NAH, HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE! » like the Flames are about to eliminate the Oilers from the playoffs.
The whole time Norm hasn’t said a word and just watches it all happen. It probably all took maybe three or four minutes total to play out.
Norm keeps waiting until the buzzing crowd settles down and is finally silent. Norn waits a few more beats in silence, then turns to the two women and says « You don’t look that fat to me. »
The whole place loses it laughing and he killed for an hour after. What a pro.
