I’ve lurked a bit on r/hockey and on the Avs sub and apparently DeSmith MAY be an option, cap wise it would be doable for sure.
Another options talked was Halak. Problem with Halak would be if Francouz comes back in the season. Here’s what i found about waivers for players 35yo and up.. ( Halak is 38yo )
» Under the 2005 CBA, if an NHL player is being sent to an NHL affiliate team in the AHL and is put through waivers and clears successfully, then his salary will not count against the respective NHL team’s salary cap. The player is still paid his full salary. There is an exception to this rule; if the player has a contract that took effect after a player’s 35th birthday, then that player’s salary would still count against the NHL cap. »
Edit: another option for the Avs might be Vladar at 2.2M 2yo if they think Wolf would be ready for the big show. I still think De Smith is the best option here tho.

I would imagine DeSmith is a good option for them. DeSmith for a 4th+6th? Not sure what his value is exactly, just spitballing.
