the ceiling of this team still not even reaching Wild Card is laughable
this about a team that is better then the Round 2 Game 7 team we had a few years ago
our likely result may 8th-10th but the absolute ceiling of the team is undoubtedly at least 7th. the guy says Demko has a Vezina year and Petey breaks 110 points (our ceiling) and we still miss? crazy 😂
Simple_Employment_49
I would have us closer to the 15-20 range I think this thinks we suck more than we do
Ktowncanuck
Yeah, I can see it.

Until they prove it otherwise I’m agreeing

It’s a bit cynical. Team was probably a playoff team last year last year had they got average goaltending. Think they’re due for some regression in the goal scoring scoring department but above average goaltending and average PK would still more than offset that.
7th -9th seed is my bet.

Forecast — mainly mediocre with flashes of brilliance.
Hence the Petey Problem.
He’s a star performer surrounded by a cast of nobodies and the occasional really good player.
With all the longterm damage done by blundering Benning, the sad irony is that Petey could do more for this team by being traded than by having a superstar performance this year.
SIIP00
Sure, until the last month of the season..
Aculandy
That second line is pretty rough compared to good teams.
I can easily see us finishing 25th because of the lack of depth. Imagine one long term injury to Petey, Hughes or Demko. That depth chart immediately looks like a bottom dweller.
Veros87
This seems about right.

I’m not trying to hype them up too much, but wasn’t Demko out for a large chunk of last season? If he is healthy, that alone will likely get us a few more wins than last year with multiple AHL goalies
berghie91
Accurate
Dyatomik
They won’t ma ske the playoffs this coming season but it (shouldn’t) won’t be as bad as it was the last couple seasons.
berghie91
On paper our third and fourth line has like a couple NHLers sprinkled in to mostly an AHL squad

100% accurate.

The fatal mistake you can make here is only thinking about what YOUR team is capable of, and disregard the rest of the conference.
To make the playoffs, someone who made it last year has to fall out of playoff position. Vegas, Edmonton, Dallas, Colorado and probably locks again this year, realistically. So – who of LA, Winnipeg, Seattle and Minnesota is Vancouver going to do better than? And without St Louis, Calgary or Nashville getting any better?
There might – might – be an opening if Winnipeg or LA falter. But that’s all based on a presumption of 80-90 points from Miller, Petey, Hughes AND a bounce back for Demko AND a historically bad defense improved by Soucy and Hronek.
25th is about where most prognosticators are putting us. Just saying they’re all wrong because, trust me bro, is a very Canucks fan thing to do.
Don’t worry about it. Go in with no expectations, enjoy the season, and if in fact all of the league thinkers are wrong…well, it will be more satisfying. But…don’t hold your breath. Reality is often disappointing. Especially for a Canucks fan.

This is completely fair until the team starts to show more than mediocrity. I would love for them to play to their potential and maybe even a bit better. Hopefully it’s a good season.
Navy_Canuck
I see the cdc doomers have migrated over. Improved defense, healthy demko, a coach with a clear plan and expectation, better C depth..
Canucks are making the playoffs. Book it.
Stollen_booty_
For me they’re a little low. Ceiling is probably closer to a wild card, but also depending on how the Cali teams & Calgary perform. The division isn’t that strong right now
AppealToReason16
Ah the annual tradition. Rankings saying this team stinks, everyone says “no we’re great! Don’t they know we improved our depth?!” before the team goes and plays stinky again.
Count3D
Good take. I have tempered expectations. Not expecting us to make the playoffs. We come close, but miss out on them. But maybe we’re the « surprise » team this year.

Seems legit, I too want to keep expectations low.
