  1. Rough guess. McDavid's next contract with the Oilers will be for $15M on max term, and Draisaitl will be $14M.

  2. Connors gotta get it then idk… the oilers management and player development might just waste his career with us… kids gotta get 80 goals, 80 assists, and 45+ points in the playoffs if we’re going to win the cup.

  3. Winning the cup is cool and all but its fleeting. You win and next season you start like nothing happened. Making money to set up your family for a generation or two is more valuable overall. Its just a game. And yes I want my team to win.

  4. "Taking a discount" is a fine line to walk. I remember when Sid signed his team-friendly deal, in Pittsburgh, and he got so much flak from the media and NHLPA reps saying that it hurt other players for the, then, best player in the league, to take far less than he could have gotten.

  5. If Edmonton could get him more sponsorship money, then maybe. Look at Michael Jordan back in the day. His salary was like Pennie’s compared to his money from Nike and McDonalds, just to name a few.

  6. If they don't win a cup in the league's next 2 years there's no way he is staying with them

  7. Bro are u really running out of ideas reporting meaningless story’s like this! Very disappointed!!!

  8. I think the window has closed for that. Maybe his first contract years ago, then yeah… I could have seen a team friendlier deal. Mackinnon had a team friendly contract because he wasn't yet established as the powerhouse he turned into, but McDavid has clearly and always been elite without a questionable doubt. Now, he's like the 3rd highest paid player after Mackinnon and Matthew's new contracts and if I'm being honest, I think the Oilers still got him for cheap. I'd be happy to pay him $12.5mm and do the deal again.

Also, it's pretty crappy and unfair for fans to demand that McDavid takes league minimum. That's insane. He needs to be paid for his performance and what he contributes to the organization. $12.5mm is looking like a pretty team friendly deal to me. The same thing goes for Draisaitl, the Oilers need to pay the man because he they don't, then another team would be happy to pay him.

As you mentioned, we look at the face value of the salary rather than the proportion to the salary cap and we also see millions attached and later waive it off like, "oh, he's so greedy" or "hasn't he made enough" and they don't consider that it's a player's livelihood and really a once in a lifetime opportunity to do what's right and set themselves and their families up for generations.

  9. These hockey YouTubers have the most clickbaitu titles I’ve ever seen. You might well just label every video “WOW, NO WAY”

  10. I think the REAL question is if McDavid will re-sign in Edmonton. How much almost doesn't matter. If Edmonton hasnt won a cup by 2026, i can see him moving on, and i say this as a hardcore Oilers fan. I think he stays only if the team is top 2 championship calibre team/future. We'll see

  11. Freeze the cap. Drop max salary to 10. Drop the ridiculous ticket prices

  12. Big fan of Conor, but we all know without cups he will never break the top 5 of best players ever. Whatever he does is on him.

  13. You know I think it is ridiculous that people think mcdavid should take a sizeable discount. I agree with you jhonny. But I get why people would say this. Its not realistic but people can have their opinions.

  14. Yeah there's no way that Connor will play his whole career in Edmonton. There's no "Lifer's" going forward in long careers.

  15. I saw one guy who claimed me David will leave oilers because he wants more money me personally I don’t agree

  16. Because willing the cup has little to do with generational talent and more to do with generation cap management.

  17. These a$$ clowns are ridiculous.

McDavid is going to get paid big time. I fully expect him to be the highest paid player in the league again.

    However. That’s three years away.

Will the Oilers have 1 or 2 cups by then?

Seriously. His next contract be fully dependent on what happens in the next 2 seasons.

Draisaitl is up in 2 and they better have a cup by then.

$15 million most likely but $850k, please.

  18. whatever happens i just wanna see his statue up one day as an Oiler

  19. Assuming McJesus wants to retire an Oiler I’d just do another 12.5M x 8, get another 100M and let the team used the increasing cap on the rest of the team
