Full trade is Pearson + a 3rd for DeSmith. I don’t hate it and will gladly take a pick, but I hope Pearson doesn’t become the new Hoffman and take time from Ylonen/RHP/etc. just to flip him for a 4th or whatever at the deadline.
[Edited to clarify, we got the 3rd]

Cool to have a pick and everything but we’re already missing space for the youngsters 🙁

Who tf gave Pearson that contract?! I’m not sure he was ever worth that much. Maybe his short stint in LA when he was playing with Toffoli and Carter….that was probably his peak.
WintertimeLivingEasy
maybe he’s still on ltir, or else it kinda feels weird to get a 30 y/o guy on the lineup instead of rhp or another young guy.

I didn’t think we wanted to use roster spots on guys not part of our future… wasn’t that the point of dumping Hoffman?

Stocking up draft picks for Aatos Koivu!!!!

The more time goes by, the more it seems like Hughes is going to be one of those GM’s that tries to « galaxy brain » every trade, draft pick and roster move, but doesn’t actually accomplish much. Like, we’ve made a fuck ton of moves this off-season, all to get a couple of late picks. Seems like kind of a waste of time, especially considering we already have a fuck ton of middling picks and prospects.

His got a 3.25m cap hit this season…
I really hope KH can flip him soon,
We need room for the young blood

OK. We had to get DeSmith to get rid of Hoffman and Pitlick.
Pearson plays on the 4th line and someone else gets more ice time in Laval.
If he plays OK we flip him. He’s got a Cup and is a hard player so he’ll have some value at the deadline.
Pretty important to remember we are *rebuilding* and will be for another couple of *years*. This is part of that. We are not even close to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel yet.
Relax.

Was going to make a thread last night but decided not to cause it felt too speculative.
With Vancouver very clearly stuck against the cap it seemed like we’d be likely suitors in a cap dump trade.
So we get a roster player/deadline asset and we get a 3rd round pick back for our efforts, only trading away the leftovers from the Petry trade.

He will go at the deadline most likely.

My hope is that there is a trade lined up for Armia or Dvorak to be on the way out. This trade feels out of place with the goal of putting Price on the LTIR in season. We need to clear a few million to make that happen and those two are right in that price range. That being said, Hughes has made some pretty interesting moves so I’m down to giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Everyone seems to be scratching their heads at this deal, but y’know what? Ken Hughes’ brain pushed all the hair out of his head, so I’m gonna trust him over you guys on this one.
