If the team buys into a tighter defensive structure, Soupy will have a bounce back year. Historically, he’s proven himself, he can do it again as long as the entire team makes a concerted effort to do their assignments, cover the opposing elite players, allowing the Goalie to see what’s in front of him so he can anticipate the play in front of him. Oilers defence has Mattias Ekholm. He can help other defenders like Bouchard and Other younger men. Nurse has been improving his defensive play as he is fully recovering from a torn hip flexor from the 2021/2022 season. Once Connor Brown gets comfortable and going we’ll have another 200 foot player and he’ll help this team with defensive assignments and some offence. Both Draisaitl and McDavid are improving on puck protection, but no one does it better than Zach Hyman and Nuge in the corners. This year will be an interesting year for the Oilers; they just need to improve on their past defensive flaws.

I hope he has his head into the game this year. Need one of these 2 goalies to not sh** the bed in the playoffs. Too bad Woody kept starting Skinner last playoffs after being pulled 4 times
Beyond that, hopefully the teams *new" defensive scheme works better than that brutal man to man. The team as a whole needs to be better defensively. They are already the best offensive team in the NHL. Cup is close.
