Well, the Carolina Hurricanes lapped the competition here.

“By a mile. It’s so bad,” said Calgary’s Andersson.

“The showers are awful,” said Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.

“I don’t even think the goalies are in the same room,” said Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom.

    He’s right.

Not only is the basketball-type locker room small and cramped featuring “stalls that were made by a seventh-grade shop class,” quipped one person, but there are flimsy sliding doors that separate the locker room from the changing room, and that’s often where goalies dress for games and sit during intermissions. There’s also no bench access and the hallway that houses the locker-room area has hurricane-force winds that constantly swirl.

“Yeah, not a great setup,” said the New Jersey Devils’ Jesper Bratt.

The Hurricanes’ own Martin Necas even picked Carolina as the worst, “which I like,” he said, laughing. “Why should we give the road team a nice, big room?”

Bad news for Necas, though. The league and players’ union want this remedied ASAP. In fact, PNC Arena’s road dressing room area was supposed to be renovated this past summer. It didn’t happen, but it is on the docket for next summer.

Asked on Wednesday’s The Athletic Hockey Show what it was like to win this prestigious honor, Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said, grinning, “I wouldn’t say it’s an honor to win that contest. I will say that the Centennial Authority, who owns the building, has allocated millions of dollars to do it. We just couldn’t get it done in the summer with everything going on and once renovation money was approved. So it’ll change drastically. As you (joked), you don’t want it too nice, but to be fair, you want to have enough spaces for all the equipment, coaches’ offices, all those things. So it’s something that I know has been on our radar, has been on the NHL’s radar. It’ll get done for the start of next season.”

Watching the Bobs scuttle across the ice after watching their team get destroyed never gets old.

It also helps that we pump loud audio of Martinook screaming Mista Svechnikov for the entirety of the team’s visit
