It’s one of those seasons… While the numbers look great and ended up being his career high, Gretz had just gone from a dynasty to the Kings and pulled them from a crap team to the playoffs while still putting up Gretzky numbers. I think it was more of the story that Gretzky immediately makes a huge impact on the Kings, while the Pens failed to make the playoffs again even with Lemieux doing his thing. If we take the award to be the most valuable player to their team, I can see why Gretzky wins this one. If we are only looking at points, the Ross winner would always win the Hart.

I was born in January of 89 and my Mom didn’t list Mario Lemieux in the Favorite athletes in my Baby Book. I’ve asked her why not several times, not once has the answer sufficed.
