Lol yeah it did, but there was a fleeting moment where Laine had tons of hype. It was right after that dueling hattrick game against the leafs I think. As crazy as it seems now there was a brief moment in time this article could be published and didnt seem as crazy.

Maybe he meant “in the kitchen”.

It aged perfectly. It’s not crazy but it is wrong.

I remember the hf thread « Laine is Lemieux 2.0 » or something along those lines. Fins really overrated their guys

It wasn’t crazy. It just didn’t happen. Injuries have constantly been a thing, and he went from having the likes of Scheifle, Wheeler, Ehlers, Connor, etc…to Columbus. Now, I think CBS has put together some decent talent. If he can stay healthy, I think he can again be a very good offensive player. He was never going to be better than McDavid. That takes some pretty daft thinking.

At the time, I can understand. He was a monster.

He scored five goals in one game in his inaugural season.

Sure, but that wasn’t a hot take at the time. This was his draft year:

And at the time of this post he had 11 goals in his first 17 NHL games, which was more than McDavid and Matthews. So it was definitely not crazy to think he would stay on this trajectory and stay ahead of them.

He’s not as good as 97 or 34, but if he stats healthy he can be a Rocket threat
