The ballot will be stronger this next election than it was the past one, but I hope so. Marleau feels like a lock for the committee made up of Hockey Men ™️, Datsyuk and Kovalchuk have the Russian thing hanging over their heads, but Mogilny should take precedence over them if the committee doesn’t mind the Russian factor. You still have the fans around the Carolinas who are stunned that RBA isn’t in. Rinne and Miller join the ballot as goalies too, so we’ll see how much the committee is committed to goalies with those two plus Joseph and Osgood (among others) as holdovers too. My biggest plea is for those dumbasses to actually elect two women this year. They have the ability to elect two each year, but they refuse to for some reason and whatever reason it is isn’t a good one or an honest one.

The lack of individual NHL hardware (besides the Conn Smythe) hurts his case a little bit, but I think he should get in based on his accomplishments with the Wings and internationally. I just think it might be a couple years before he gets that nod.

Like you said in your post, he’s a Triple Gold Conn Smythe winner who is already in the IIHF Hall of Fame. Yes, he should be in.

I can admit that I’m biased as fuck but I truly believe he’s one of the best to ever play the game. He would have certainly broken 1,000 points if his back issues hadn’t ended his career early, maybe 1,100. He was a master two-way center who could play the entire 200 feet, and that’s exactly the kind of player who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Since there’s an instinctual urge to look at points for things like this, but we all know there’s no bar for when you’re officially HoF worthy, I think it should be said that everyone knows he would have hit 1000 points if it weren’t for the 04-05 lockout, or his back issues, or maybe even if he had come into the NHL earlier than at age 22

You have to take a holistic view of the player and he absolutely has the HoF pedigree
