Zegras is no defense at all. Caufields atleast developped some strength. Sure hes small. But even the other night against toronto. You seen him control the puck under pressure a but better and even had a few hits. Zegras is kinda risky to give such a high contract because he can either score 50 points or 70 points. They want to give a 1 yr to see how much his 8 yr should be.

The guy is bad at faceoffs and doesn’t play defense. Starts 70% of his shifts in the offensive zone and plays 19 minutes a night. His best production is 23 goals and 65 points. I wonder what he’s demanding, cause surely he’s been offered 7×7.5 and rejected it.

There have been moments that Zegras is a bit of a Cory Perry chirpster type ready mix it up at either the wrong time or meaningless moments. Or is he going to be a more offensive polished Matt Cooke type throwing tantrums?
So his 3 year career mark of 150 PIM /180 games is downright baffling for a talented forward who should have a #1 focus should be on the ice on putting goals in the net and not sitting in the penalty box for brushes with a mounting list of foes.
I've been saying since this story broke, Buffalo should be offering Zegras 2×6.5m. Just enough that Anaheim has to refuse 3 picks if they want to match.

Tyler Toffoli has won with LA, put up great numbers in the short stay in Vancouver, help lead Montreal to the cup finals and lead Calgary in scoring. Hes only making $4.25M, so why does Zegras, a rookie from a last place team, deserve anymore then Toffoli? What exactly has Zegras done deserve more then $5M? Hes so overrated and i cant believe this is actually a debate. Just because thry have a cap space does not mean they need to spend it all on one or two players.
Problem with Zegras is the only thing he does is show off his skills. He doesn't defend, he doesn't backcheck nor does he forecheck. He's not worth 7 mil right now. I'd say he's worth 5 mil but I can honestly see why he was offered that

Z needs to mature alittle yes, showing disprect opnely on the ice to your coach is never a good look but, if Verbeek isn't sure about him long term, thats what a bridge deal is for. Then you get Z's team to agree on a bridge deal and you low ball the hell outta him??!! From what I've seen of Z he will def take this personal and Verbeek has def ruined the long term future w him. I agree with other analysts that Zegras is a GOOD player, but not a GREAT player. He's definitely worth more than 4mil, but not as much as some think he's worth. He's got tons of skill. But a typical NHL game is not the same as an ASG Skills Competition. Its his team play that brings him down. He needs to focus less on highlight goals and more on consistency and just playing a full game if he wants to be considered a great player. Semin was flashy too. I consider Zegras a decent 1C, but a good 2C on other teams.

As a kings fan who lives near Anaheim, I’ve seen a lot of Zegras, and I can say that he is definitely overrated. I think a 5mil/2-3 year bridge deal is appropriate, but he hasn’t earned that long term 7 mil contract. Especially with his play in the defensive zone and his face off percentage. He can not be payed that much as your first line center.
Zegras is all flash, no heart. That's why the Ducks are so bad, they draft and trade for players who just want to have fun and give 75 % or less.
He's fun, but in a meritocracy you'd rather have a gym rat rinkoholic who quietly puts up twenty more points. He's a head scratcher from a GM's perspective.

Zegras is a talented player no question But his shenanigans are also a question. Maybe meet in the middle for a year and see how it plays out. Their is more to hockey than tricked up fancy plays. Zegras has the tools to be an all-star but does he have the character and make up to get paid $7million a season. I would not right now!

If I was a GM I wouldn’t be comfortable giving Zegras 7 or 8 million long term. He still has to prove he wants to win and that hockey is his top priority and not all the other BS on and off the ice that hurts his game. He just needs to show a tiny bit of maturity and he would get paid.
There is an off-ice issue going on that is not public, yet. When things don't make sense it's because there are some things that are bigger and more difficult to negotiate than stats. Neither side wants to disclose or leak it, but these types of things have a way of becoming known, sooner or later. This is not a money issue.
I just got home from the Ducks vs Yotes game at Acrisure. Don’t tell me that Z isn’t worth 7 m, EVERYONE has his jersey on. He’s the face of the franchise – pay him accordingly. Oh, and PV sucks. Name a signing he’s done that improved this team. I’ll wait.

Zegras is a showboat and should be on a barnstorming team..not a team player..coming from a last place team and now he comes with baggage..Drysdale played 8 whole games last year.. if they were smart and continue being good players they would get the big money in one or two years when he's 25 26 years old.. get rid of both of them they don't need them

Zegras has been a “plus” player everywhere but the NHL, and that team was brutal.
He’s a show boat (not my style of player) but he sells tickets and that has to be considered.
If the Ducks aren't going to sign Zegras or Terry to what they deserve then flip them for prospects and picks and go full rebuild. Bothe players have the talent to do great things so they are probably asking for a big number to stay with Anaheim during this current rebuild because they know the team isn't going to go deep.
I’m gonna throw this out here and see if this ends up being the case. I think Anaheim wants to wait these contracts out to get lowered cap hits for years 2+ in exchange for a higher cap hit in year one of these Zegras deals. So they’re giving shit now but they’ll cave in the end. A more disrespectful version of Nylander and the leafs 4 or so years ago.
Zegras has had the most attention and hype in recent times for a guy that is a one dimensional hockey player that hasn't even excelled in that one dimension yet! A lot of flash but has TERRIBLE defensive awareness and effort, takes dumb and selfish penalties, and appears to have a bit of an attitude problem. He may one day reach the lofty potential a lot of fans think he has, but i doubt many intelligent hockey fans would be shocked if he ended up being just the type of player he is now, a middling one dimensional player. Time will tell, but i wouldn't want "my team" putting all their eggs in his basket. Great for selling merch and tickets to the casual fan (which is important) but not conducive to winning hockey games over the long haul. He's young and can develop and change, and i hope he does, but i for one will certainty not be holding my breath.
