@Kraken de Seattle

Salut les gars! Un gamin de théâtre qui essaie de se lancer dans le sport a décidé de choisir son équipe car la mascotte est cool. Ai-je le droit?

Welcome. Hockey is a great and exciting sport to jump into

  2. Ognius

You bet boo. Welcome to the Kraken

  3. Hordelife2020

Of course, you are very welcome here. It’s going to take some time to figure out what penalties are, and what constitutes icing and offsides. But it’s worth it. Hockey is addicting to watch.

there’s worse reasons to follow a team (just ask booktok) – welcome to the deep! 🦑🦑

  5. _Travelling_Dude

    Go ahead, knock yourself out!

  6. Electrical-Okra3644

Welcome to the deep! I’m a fairly new hockey fan, and I’ve found folks are happy to answer questions about the game.

  7. First-Radish727

Welcome. Theater kids are very cool. So courageous to put yourself out there.

    Anyway. Happy to have you.

  8. Crazy_King_Bumi

    Welcome to the Deep!

Kraken are a great organization to join as a Newcomer, given the Franchise is only in it’s third season this year. So you always get to witness History as it happens and also Help shape the Kraken culture.

So hop on board and enjoy some Kraken Hockey!!

Of course you are welcome! Since you are new to hockey in general, [this is a great source](https://projects.seattletimes.com/2021/seattle-kraken-ice-hockey-basics-101/) or [this site](https://howtheyplay.com/team-sports/Basic-Rules-NHL-Hockey-Visual-Guide) has a good rundown of the rules. [The finer points of hockey can be found here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XbL7lG0Su8&t=3s&pp=ygUdc2xhcHNob3QgZXhwbGFpbmluZyBwZW5hbHRpZXM%3D). Or you can [listen to Snoop Dog](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzasg0fgEjo&list=PL1NbHSfosBuFnwGJcXwsDG-wl8SNDzOu2&index=9).

If you console game consider picking up one of the EA sports NHL games, they come out every year so an older one is fine and cheaper. It will help get a feel for what some of the rules like icing or how offsides work as well as getting to know some of the players.

[Connor McDavid](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/m/mcdavco01.html) of the Edmonton Oilers is the best player in the world and scored 153 points last year, the highest total since ‘96. [Matty Beniers](https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/201739/matty-beniers) is the Kraken’s first draft pick and the future of the team. [Wayne Gretzky](https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2035) is the undisputed GOAT, with more assists than anyone else has points.

For more in-depth understanding of what’s going on [32 thoughts by Elliotte Friedman](https://www.sportsnet.ca/insiders/elliotte-friedman/) is the best account of the weeks news.

[The Hockey Guy is a great youtube](https://www.youtube.com/c/TheHockeyGuy) resource for what’s going on. [Eck](https://www.youtube.com/@EckHockey) is great at breaking down plays and stories. [Cheap Seats Sports](https://www.youtube.com/@CheapSeatsSports) covers the Kraken and is active on r/seattlekraken. The [Kraken’s youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@SeattleKraken) has lots of good interviews and post game stuff. I’m not 100% sure about the rights issues, but the [Sportsnet Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/user/SPORTSNETCANADA) has recaps of every game, at least for Canadians.

The best twitter follows for news are [Frank Seravalli](https://www.twitter.com/frank_seravalli?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor), [Elliotte Friedman](https://www.twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC), [Bob McKenzie](https://www.twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie), [Chris Johnston](https://www.twitter.com/reporterchris), [Kevin Weekes](https://twitter.com/KevinWeekes) or [Pierre LeBrun](https://www.twitter.com/PierreVLeBrun)
The Bobfather McKenzie is semi-retired, but was the voice for many years. For more Kraken focused reporting [Geoff Baker](https://twitter.com/GeoffBakerTIMES), [Bob Condor](https://twitter.com/ByBobCondor), [Alison Lukan](https://twitter.com/AlisonL?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor), [Kate Shefte](https://twitter.com/KateShefte), [Sound of Hockey](https://twitter.com/sound_hockey), [Emerald City Hockey](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky) or for a more vibes take [THE Kraken pod](https://twitter.com/KrakenPod) guys are fun. More Analytics focused guys to consider [Dimitri Filipovic](https://twitter.com/DimFilipovic?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor), [Dom Luszczyszyn](https://twitter.com/domluszczyszyn?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) or [Jfresh](https://twitter.com/domluszczyszyn?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor)

The Sound of Hockey, Emerald City Hockey, and THE Kraken Pod all have Kraken podcasts I enjoy. Some other more general podcast to consider are 32 Thoughts, the Jeff Marek Show (lots of overlap with 32 Thoughts), the DFO rundown, the Chris Johnston Show, or for a more analytic based take the PDOcast or Too Many Men are good options.

The best thing about theatre kids as hockey fans? They’re already in the habit of talking about “intermission!”

Welcome, good person! You’ve picked a great team to follow!

  13. you_are_unhinged

Yeah, you’ll find that there are so many knowledgeable, experienced fans who are really kind and respectful to people like us who are new to hockey. If you’re anything like me, you’ll never have anyone talk down to you or try to exclude you for being different or not very smart or something. In my experience, there are a lot of very frequent posters who are quick to jump in and explain things in a way that *never* feels patronizing or misogynistic. In my experience, it’s a safe place to come and try to share your enjoyment of hockey with other people who also enjoy hockey. I’ve found this sub to be nothing but welcoming and inclusive. And if you happen to identify as a woman, I would definitely say don’t worry, you should never worry about the men in this sub treating you any differently than if you were a man.

    Welcome to the team!

  14. TheChigger_Bug

My wife got into Hockey because of Queer romantic sports books, and now we’re both hooked on the krakens. You’re in good company.

  15. Havoc_XXI

Just always remember, the boys are such fuckin’ beauties!

    **Listen up, newbie!!**

So, you think you can just waltz into Kraken territory, huh? You, with your theater background, suddenly want to dive headfirst into the world of sports? Well, hold on to your playbills, because we’ve got some **serious** Kraken-fan criteria to assess your worthiness!

    **You’re Only a REAL Kraken Fan If…**

    – You’ve memorized every player’s astrological sign and incorporate it into your game-day rituals. « Capricorn power play goal, incoming!
    – You’ve mastered the art of yelling « Release the Kraken! » with the perfect blend of excitement and fear.

    – You can throw and catch a fish with EXTREME precision.

    – You’ve started incorporating hockey stick choreography into your theater performance.
    – You exclusively eat calamari (extra tentacles)

    /s

((Welcome to the Deep, fellow theatre nerd!))

  17. RBUQ34

Absolutely! Hockey is for everyone, and if you ever need a former band kid to watch a game with lemme know!
