The Rangers should still trade him while he has value. Dach got the 13th overall pick very recently.
He really has no elite skills and will probably be nothing more than a 3rd liner, on this team at least. Cullyle/Othmann have a skill set much more fitting for his role and are cheaper and more promising.
I just don’t get how *every* scout was wrong about him.

He’s earned his way down the lineup. If he doesn’t take a step they’re going to have to trade him to make room for players who belong in his spot.

I give him 20 to 30 games to reserve my final judgement. But if he continues this trajectory I want apologies from every single hater on here who said I was crazy and it is stupid and yada yada yada. I already got one admin’s account deleted over this. Not that he doesn’t have 5 others. LMAO….
I called it this summer and all or most of you said I was crazy for suggesting we trade him. Him not going to the tournament that both Chytil and Kakko went to over this summer, told you all you needed to know about this kid. He doesn’t care. He made it to the show and for some players that is enough. Maybe he found other interests in life and Hockey is no longer his passion. People change.
It’s clear as day to anyone watching he is halfheartedly trying. He is a « Needs a change of scenery » player. Maybe that will spark him. But for us it is most likely over. He is too comfortable and that 10A moniker has bought him that. Time that changes.

He lacks high level skill, end product, and outstanding physical attributes. Underwhelming in just about every conceivable way.
Him showing up to camp in a clean-slate situation with a new coaching staff and dropping an absolute abortion of an effort is just about the cherry on top of his career as a Ranger.
If I have to read another mf in here talking about even strength goals I’m gonna lose it. Watch this kid play, he’s not a top 6 NHL talent.

he looks like he has no idea whats going on most of the time

He looks weak and positionally unaware in the offensive zone

Has anyone read Twitter about him lately? Apparently a prominent NYR reporter (they explicitly said it was not Molly but didn’t give any other info) said that the front office can’t wait to get rid of Laf and that he has a partying problem/commitment issues.
Wesley__Willis
The strange amount of time it took him to sign his bridge now looks worse coupled with having an unimpressive camp. Layer on what seems like genuine uncertainly about his role from the coach this close to the season (!) and it starts to feel like there’s a simmering disconnect between the player and the team. Personally I wonder if they didn’t try to move him over the summer or whether they might still be trying
FTR_Hair
Did he actually work on his game this summer or just his golf swing?
jakes951
Can he be sent to hartford? Can’t imagine he’d be claimed on waivers

It really feels like the majority of fans are ready to sour on Laf. Last year we were all concerned but hopeful he could turn it around, now if he doesn’t come out of the gates with at least some level of tangible improvement to his game it just feels like the fans are going to run him out of town. The first 10-15 games are really going to be interesting. I hope he comes out with his hair on fire but I’m definitely worried. If fans start booing him at MSG I gotta think that’s going to be the last straw for him as a Ranger. I hope I’m wrong.
_mynameisclarence
It’s painfully obvious that Laf doesn’t know how to be a pro. Work ethic is not there. He has had the same serious area of improvement required in his game and has not made any improvement for years now.
Never_Forget_94
Ofc the first time the Rangers get a the 1st overall in my lifetime they pick what’s looking the be one of the biggest busts ever. It’s so infuriating.

Before preseason’s end I want to see 10-72-13 as our second line.
This line operates under the assumption that Panarin is both healthy and has shaken off the rust, and that Chytil is healthy. If both are true, I believe this line would be best for Laf, since all he has to really do is either wait for a Panarin feed or feed Chytil or Panarin and easy goals – and he can be the hardworking boards power forward guy on that line.
I also want to see him on PP1 OR to see PP2 get utilized more effectively in the regular season. I believe most of his issues come down to confidence, which he lacks. He’s not gonna gain confidence by getting banished to the third line and underutilized PP2 for eternity – he needs points, and the best surefire way to get points is to play more with better players.
Make 10-72-13 our second line and then either have PP1 be 10-20-93-13-23 with Laf as the guy in the right circle OR have PP2 be 17-16-72-13-79/56 with Laf filling the same role and Kakko on PP1, and utilize both units effectively. It’s not a guaranteed way to get Laf going, but ultimately, it’s the only way we can reasonably try.

While his value is rock bottom, it’s probably best to move on from Laf. Only the Rangers could get lucky enough to get the 1OA pick and get a dud.
DrFrocktopus
Idk I don’t really get the push to trade him. He’s a fine mid 6 player that’s cost controlled and likely to improve (if only marginally) as he enters his prime. Feel like the media has been driving this top 6 or bust narrative when he could easily just be a depth even strength scoring option for us.

I have more hope for Wilson than this bust
HereticsSpork
The best thing they can do is send him to Hartford for a few months and hope that’s a wake up call for him.

Listen I’d be easier on the kid if he looked like he actually gave a shit. I get that preseason doesn’t matter, but he’s looked awful

I cant believe we bridged this waste. Move on.
