Fwiw, two of the other preseason bottom feeders are last year’s cup winner and team that had a record breaking season.

One conclusion I think can be drawn though is that I want someone besides Quick to be the backup goalie

  2. mookyyyy

Do people in this sub know it’s preseason?? Complain when we suck in the reg season. It’s really weird to do it in preseason.

  3. MarsHotelSouth

Completely gutless effort. I don’t care that it doesn’t count, at least show that you give a damn

At this point I hope Laviolette starts demoting people who are just doing cardio out there and doling out healthy scratches when needed. No excuse. Let Chytil and Kakko have an extended look on the first line if the “big guns” aren’t doing anything. And Othmann and Cuylle deserve to make the team.

All I know is one week from tomorrow we got the real thing, and I am very much looking forward to that!

    “It’s just preseason”

“It’s just the first month of the season”

    “It’s just one season”

  6. Envelopen

Not sure what to say, the loss dont count, but allowing every star on the devils to score is concerning. Quick looks slow. We look a little too lax despite our last performance looking eerily similar. Lets just hope we get all this out of the way now.

  7. NoeyBalbonzers

I think garand should be the backup. I know quick didn’t have much help. This team looks slow.

This team is still a complete mess but I’m not worried. Not about Zib, not Bread, not Kreider, not Fox, not Kakko, not Chytil. The only thing I’m legit worried about is Laf. Other than that I feel like once they get their shit together and start skating with intent, things will start to click. Think of it this way, if they’re basically hanging with the NJD — one of the best teams in the league last year — while completing only 33% of their passes, think of how competitive they will be when things are crisp and on target.

I think that the Rangers FO should cut their losses and start shipping off every vet not named Kreider. I think it’s important to keep Kreider around out of respect for someone who will have their name in the rafters one day, and he can be good leadership for the young guys. But Panarin, Zibanejad, Trochek, unfortunately even Goodrow and Trouba should be traded for picks and prospects.

Who cares if we are bad for a couple of years? Look across the river. The Devils were terrible for a decade but now it’s paying off. The Rangers f***ed up their rebuild by ever signing Panarin in the first place. Who in their right mind goes for the biggest fish on the UFA market 18 months after announcing a rebuild? It defies logic. I get that Panarin wanted to be a NYR and even took a discount to do so, but the FO should have told him « too bad, we are tanking until at least 2021/22 in order to stock up on picks and focus on developing them properly ».

I literally think this acquisition was just to increase jersey sales. That seems to be all Dolan and the Rangers management cares about. Not a Stanley Cup, not creating a winning culture, just $$$ and as a fan I find this horrifying. I think a lot of fans have an emotional investment in Panarin because yes, it was cool to sign a star during some poverty years of being a Ranger fan, but this has totally messed up our future. If the Rangers don’t embrace at least a retool we have some dark days ahead of us.

The Rangers need to target first round picks (not even necessarily top 10 picks, we know how that goes) and top prospects. And immediately start developing them within the Rangers organization. Homegrown talent is the only path to a Stanley Cup. I want players who care more about the logo on their jersey than the name on the back. Kreider fits that mold and so do Chytil and Fox. It’s not a coincidence that 2 of those 3 were immediately brought into the organization from a young age, and the other grew up a Rangers fan. We need to stop with the UFA BS. If we are going to target guys from outside the organization, they need to fit at least one of these characteristics:

    1. The Trevor Zegras mold: Like Adam Fox, someone who grew up a fan and has an emotional commitment to the New York Rangers and will have a true hunger and desire to win a Cup as a Ranger because they realize it’s more than just a paycheck

    2. The Mitch Marner mold: An ELITE player who has a history of performing in the playoffs and someone that we can safely assume will not go ghost during the big moments

    3. The Ryan Leonard mold: A top tier prospect who’s young enough to be brought in the fold and form an emotional investment to the NY Rangers instead of necessarily the team they were drafted by

If the Rangers can add several of these guys to the young core of Chytil, Fox, Kakko, Lafreniere, Miller, Schneider, Perrault, Othmann and Cuylle they will be in fine shape going forward. Again, who cares if we suck for a few years right now. If we can free ourselves from bad contracts and start semi-fresh it will pay off. I would even be willing — not encouraging this, but I could come around given the right return — to ship off Kakko Laffy and Lindgren if it meant obtaining guys who fit one of those three molds.

We simply cannot afford to waste years of Adam Fox like we did Lundqvist and like we are kind of doing to Kreider. I also think Ranger fans should get used to the idea that Igor might get tired of constantly saving us and leave when his contract is up. If the FO gets indication that it’s likely, they should trade him before he walks and we lose him for nothing. But as long as we hang onto Benoit Allaire we will be fine when it comes to goaltending. What are your thoughts

  10. gnitsuj

The most predictable loss of all time?

  11. Reptar_4_Life

I think Cuylle has a better shot to make it than Othmann just based on their potential/play style. Cuylle fits much better in a bottom six role. Let Othmann cook in Hartford for a year (maybe a playoff call up) and actually develop a young forward for once

  12. mbsmilford

Your telling me a pro athlete doesn’t want to win every game they play in im calling bullshit. Preseason or not. These games don’t count in the standings but please don’t tell me the players don’t care. Because if that’s true we have much bigger problem than losing in the preseason.

  13. commanderklit

This season will definitely be interesting, especially all the game to game stuff if the growing pains are this bad.

  14. InternationalHunt738

I am curious….do we win anything or do the devils win anything if you win out during the preseason?

So why the hell is Othmann and Cuyelle not seeing time on the PK and PP? Why are we running out a top level PP for a preseason game? Why aren’t both of them on the PP unit? Did it really matter? Was it essential to see Fox play 20 minutes tonight with Lindgren? Like Hockey is so dumb sometimes. Why was trouba out there on the Pk running over goalies and give Jack a open screen? Is it not better to see Gustafason out there and see if he matches with someone?

Are we trying to find new angles on these players because I am pretty sure everyone knows what Trouba has to offer at this point. I pretty sure everyone knows Mika is slappin it on the right side on the PP. What are you trying to prove here?

Just so dumb. If you are down 2-0 in the first 10 minutes ….just let the kids play. They are up here for a reason…… let them play. It is not the end of the world to get blown out if they suck. But if they show you something well look 1 more reason to keep them on the roster.

Outside of that I am not rippin on Quick he was solid. Most of his goals against were because Trouba is in midseason form. Screening the goalie and knocking people into him. I am not upset that we lost I am upset how we lost. But can’t expect change from a recycled coach. Which again is very predictable. New system…players will play a more structured game….yada yada yada ….same team as last year trying to win the cup in the preseason with a bunch half interested over talented perimeter players.

  15. Flyinghud

Wouldn’t be surprised if Trouba receives a suspension for the uncalled boarding

  16. deeply_sighing

    God Lafreniere SUCKED tonight!!!!!!

Anyway, if Pitlick misses time I think this opens up a spot for one of the kids to be in the top-9

  17. slipknottin

I didn’t think they played a bad 5v5 game. But their PK was absolutely awful.
Some other thoughts, Kakko does look quicker, but still clueless with the puck, either he holds it and does his little loops for no reason or tosses it to nobody.

Panarin looks horrible. Every single zone entry the guy has had for the past year+ is him pulling up at the blue line and tossing the puck across the ice to nobody. I don’t get it.

    Quick is no longer quick.

Mika definitely does not seem as fast as he did a couple seasons ago, maybe the hair is slowing him down.

Defense I thought was mostly fine (apart from the Pk which I’m hoping they are just working on new things). Schneider and Gust look like a pretty good pairing. It’s nice to have someone on the 3rd pairing that doesn’t treat the puck like a grenade.

Othmann was really quiet, but only played 12 minutes, so can’t say too much about him.

Cuylle looks like he could be a good fit in the bottom 6, he’s consistently around the net and winning battles which is going to help, defensively I didn’t see any issues with his positioning.

Team definitely misses Chytil, he’s one of the best zone entry guys on the team, and one of the few who seems to enjoy carrying the puck up ice

  18. AdamFoxxx

Admittedly I’ve missed just about every pre season game just caught a few snippets – that being said it seems like Quick is not gonna be even a good backup.

  19. iVoyager9404

Honest question: How are we gonna stop the Devils in the regular season?

Matchup wise, they’re still a nightmare for us. We still don’t have the foot speed to play with them.

I think we’re gonna be a damn good team this year, but man the Devils are scary.

  20. spotlitekid

I know it’s only preseason, but I am already worried. They look slow, confused and pourous on defense. I was looking forward to the giants season, see how that went.
