  1. “DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned forwards Jonatan Berggren, Cross Hanas and Elmer Soderblom and defenseman Simon Edvinsson to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Additionally, the Red Wings have assigned forward Nate Danielson to the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings. Detroit has also designated forwards Matt Luff and Carter Mazur as injured non-roster.

The roster moves bring the Red Wings to a 23-man roster, consisting of 13 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders. The Red Wings will begin their 98th season in franchise history on Thursday, Oct. 12 with a road game against the New Jersey Devils at 7:30 p.m. at Prudential Center.”

Will be interesting to see who’s playing by the end of the season

  3. Onlytimewilltell19

Honestly a little disappointed not to see Ed make the starting line up. You’d have to assume he’s coming up some point this year so hopefully getting top line minutes down in Grand Rapids will help his development going forward.

  4. Dinkin---Flicka

Nothing too surprising. Would have loved to give Nate a look in the regular season but he was never going to stay the whole season so that’s fine. Berger being sent down is hard because he was great last year but there just isn’t currently a spot in the top 6 for him. I expect him to be the first call up when we have a top 6 injury then Soderblom is second. Also I expect Ed to end up playing 30+ games this season once injuries arise or they want a different look on D.

  5. GR is going to be loaded

Yzerman wants to see more wins and not use the season as a developmental one

Will be interesting to see who gets called up and when

  6. VariousDay5

Sucks for Berggren, the guy earned a spot last year as a one of our best hustlers and setup men. I hope he’s up soon because it’s gotta be shitty to start down after playing so long with the big boys

  7. One_Handed_Wonder

I thought ZAR was going to be waived? Oh well, I’d rather have Berggren, Soderblom, and Hanas playing games in GR instead of sitting in the press box

  8. ColdSplit

Crazy to finally feel bad about sending guys down rather than celebrating their departure. Our depth is the best it’s been in maybe a decade.

  9. Deraj2004

Had a feeling the team was gonna carry three goalies.

  10. aDayvanCowboy

I wouldn’t be surprised to see ZAR get sent down if he clears waivers and one of these guys come back up

  11. jfstompers

Edvinsson being sent down is a waste. So much for best players get to play. He’s more than earned it and growing the prospects should be top priority. This is some Holland era sign a bunch of guys and see what happens roster construction.

  12. BaptizedInBud

I get it, but I’m not going to pretend I like it.

This team is simply better with Edvinsson and Berggren in the lineup.

  13. AaronRodgersInjury

Simon and Berg being sent down is dumb

  14. oceanic8675

Might have to get a griffins jersey this year. The question is: whose name???

  15. petezapeteza

Berg will come back up after ZAR clears waivers and gets sent down.

  16. AdPotential3848

still absent of skill and talent all these playoffless years later. Too many older ‘200
    Ft’ players

  17. BajaBlastMtDew

Oof 3 exciting players not making it. Wasn’t expecting all 3 but expected Elmer to make it honestly

  18. Really hoping we can get Ed and Burgers in the lineup soon. They both deserve it. Stevie might need to make a trade so they can slide in

  19. Team having trouble to score sends scorers to minors. Checks out.

  20. some1337

I wonder how they’re going to shuffle 3 goalies.

  21. doltron3030

This sucks. You couldn’t ask for a less exciting lineup with the young talent buried in the AHL.

  22. AaronRodgersInjury

Yes the takes on social media are as dumb as you think they are

  23. LucasRaymondGOAT

7 D and I can’t figure out who the odd man out would be. Petry or Maatta?

Feels like Ghost, Seider, Walman and Chiarot are the mainstays.

  24. Pretty disappointing. Hard to see the roster as currently constructed being much better than last year, with still very few of the young guys breaking the lineup. Not sure if that’s a knock on our development or our drafting or both but I expect another top 10 pick on the way.
