Outsports a appris que la LNH a interdit à l’échelle de la ligue l’utilisation de Pride Tape sur la glace avec les joueurs pendant les échauffements, les matchs et même les entraînements.

I hope Leafs players protest this one because holy shit NHL.

  2. vanityfear

Man, the NHL sure makes it hard to be a fan sometimes

  3. Volderon90

What in the fuck is this, the snowflakes can’t handle some rainbow tape? Wow. I don’t even know what to say.

  4. twistedmechanix

this is outrageous, what the fuck NHL…. how can we as fans show our disapproval of these things?

  5. whatamidoing_2521

    Incoming scenario:

Enough players will make displeasure known with restrictions on military appreciation and hockey fights cancer nights, that this rule will be reworked to mean « only rainbow tape/stickers/jerseys are banned » without explicitly saying it.

  6. moon_safari_

wtf man. this league is a fucking joke run by old white conservatives. humiliating.

  7. footwith4toes

Hope players don’t stand for this. It’s bull shit.

  8. Big_Albatross_3050

fuck the NHL, I hope the entire core continues to rock pride tape and the Leafs eat those fines on their behalf. Don’t let bigotry win

    This is bigger than Hockey

  9. Turbo_911

The old boys club strikes again.

  10. hyteskatyamattel

JFC. I don’t expect much from a dinosaur league like the NHL, but J.F.C.

  11. ElephantShell34

So dumb. Limiting the players’ ability to expressive themselves in a league filled with robotic personalities as it is. What the fuck are they doing??

  12. No-Following4445

If Matthews went out with rainbow tape and forced the league to make a decision on him… it would be strategically sound to say the least.

  13. This doesn’t read like a ban. It reads like an out for players who don’t want to participate (« shall not be put in a position of having to »), which tracks with everything we’ve seen with the Staals/Reimer/Provorov. They’re codifying what the de facto rule was last year.

It seems like players who wish to « demonstrate personal support » for initiatives will be able to, which I sincerely hope they do. This might even spur some of the more vocal allies in the league to use their voices more, which would be a great way to have it backfire on the dinosaur NHL.

Time to start going with a full rainbow stick wrap

  15. Illustrious_Fact_554

Salt Lake city in the comments

  16. AustonDadthews

really baffling decision here. what possible reason could the nhl have for banning pride tape in *practice* apart from « we don’t want our players showing support for the lgbtq community »? would love to hear an explanation from the league.

  17. AustichMavarlander

The NHL is a semi pro embarassing laughable league….

  18. Randy_Butternubs666

Is this actually real? I can’t find anything from the NHL itself on this.

  19. Broton55

    Don’t care. Just play sports

  20. mollymuppet78

    How can you ban rainbow?
I hope they ban camo, because you know, war sympathizers or something.

  21. djlista

I bet Facebook groups are celebrating this. It’s weird how Reddit and Facebook are polar opposites in terms of these things.

  22. CMDRShepardN7

It’s one thing to not wear it, and then another thing entirely to ban it. And it’s for greedy and cowardly reasons too.

They have taken back their support to be inclusive because bigots were loud and obnoxious. It was always about money. League never gave a shit about being inclusive. If they come out and say *hockey is not for everyone*, they’ll still have support from the drunk moronic hillbilly crowd.

  23. fancypants55

This league needed a new commissioner a decade ago. I wish Bettman would just move on

  24. FansTurnOnYou

    Hockey is for ~~everyone~~ some.

  25. WintersbaneGDX

Every Leafs or Raptors game I’ve been to in recent years plays that « Sports are for everyone, all are welcome, there’s no room for intolerance in our house » PSAs. I know that’s not coming from the League itself, but apparently it’s just untrue.

What a paltry and pathetic decision. How scared of dicks do you have to be, jfc.

  26. bforce1313

I’m sure the “free speech” people are quite upset by this… yet they were no where to be found in that thread. So pathetic of a choice by the nhl if true.

  27. JimBeefLakeMonster

What a joke, the nhl seems like it really wants to keep being irrelevant and bottom tier. Looking forward to when the entire ice surface and uniforms are covered in advertising to make up for decades of brutally stupid business decisions and old boys club mismanagement.

  28. uncleben85

    Fucking bass-ackward decision

  29. SEGWAY78

So, people are scared that seeing other people support other people being themselves, will keep them from being themselves? So those other people don’t get to be themselves by showing support for the people who want to stop being repressed for being themselves… hm.
