  1. This is great for the jets so I’m happy. I see people complaining that the deals are to long but I disagree.

  2. Flat cap era is over. 8.5 million is not even close to the same number that it was when Wheeler signed half a decade ago. The cap going up next season almost pays for these contracts already and it’s supposed to rise significantly more in the years to come.

  3. These are great contracts. This is a win-win for the team and these players. They are both core guys who have given 100% year after year. Sure. In 2028, they may need to be bought out. I'm fine with that. Both of these guys have been underpaid for years.

  4. look at it this way, the cap is going up and these are WAY FUCKING better than some of the sick shit that's going around the league right now. this is nifty for chevy. plus it's hard to find lifetime jets, no one wants to live in winnipeg

  5. Jets needed these guys and neither is holding anyone back, like on defense. Cap has plenty of room, these are good extensions.

  6. I think this will definitely make for some stability going forward. Hopefully it translates to the ice.

  7. Good players who take care of their body are still very effective at the later stages of their careers. Imo, these are great contracts, especially with the cap going up. If they gotta buyout the last year or 2 of the contracts so be it. 6-7 years down the road the team could be in rebuild mode anyways. Cross that road when we get there. For now, in "Win-Now" mode these are solid, team friendly contracts that allow the Jets cap room to add some key pieces to the roster.

  8. Why was anyone suggesting we trade Helle for future prospects. Franchise goalie with a prospect funnel allows us to fill in the blanks with the right pieces.

  9. I mostly agree, you gotta lock Hellebuyck down because you're not winning anything with a weak goalie. The Scheifele contract…well…. Ya it's a bit much. But you look at his previous contract, and it was very favorable to the team. I suppose he's earned it.
The other good news is that this seems to indicate the locker room problems were with Wheeler. For them to give him back the A and sign him long term makes me think they have full confidence in him.

  10. Don’t like the length of term. What happens when they slow down and cob webs start forming on them while they are in the ice? Wheeler all over again. Huge albatross in a few years. Thus is bad!

  11. I think you are missing the point. Extending them doesn’t take away trade in the future but we are now not on hook to trade them on deadline but mark puts up another good year, we could get a real good value of him rather than trading at deadline. Think about wheeler value when he put up those 90points back to back.

  12. Wheels gets booed out of the city because he is a "cancer" in the locker room… Mark Sheifele gets an extention and an identical contract. Will he be bought out at 37 years old with one year left in his contract? Wheels was. All Sheifele fans are hypocrites

  13. I’m very excited about this signing bud I love Connor Hellebunker and Mark Scheifele. Scheifele is a longtime Jets player since we drafted him in 2011 and as well Adam lowry. Can’t wait to see Hellebunker and Brossoit is Reunited as Goalie tandem again. We drafted Connor Hellebunker in 2012 in Pittsburgh and I love that pick. Don’t care they 37 years of age when both of there contract expires in 7 yrs. I want them retires as a jets and named jets hall of famers. GO JETS GO AS ALWAYS.

  14. I get why Jets fans are psyched about these signings but don't be surprised if you get exactly what you've been getting the last few years.

  15. Keep in mind he was underpaid for the last 4 years (and didn’t complain about his contract) so over the span of his career he will be paid fairly. Agree, The last 2 years will hurt.

  16. There's 8 years left these contracts don't kick in until after this season. So they will be 38…

For A goalie Contract this is pretty valuable.

For Mark Schief it will age badly.

Lastly the cap is going up so 8.5 mill contracts right now won't be as bad as it sounds.

    A 8.5 mill in 3 years will be a 6.5mill value now a days

  17. I am happy they signed Scheifele and Hellebuyck to longer contracts but i do feel like 7 years is a bit long for 2 veteran players that have played with winnipeg their whole career. I am excited to see them stay and see how they play this year. I hope even with these long contracts, that we''ll stay a Stanley cup contending team and hopefully Brossoit could sign for a a couple years to keep the goaltender tandem with Helle.

  18. This is great to help support a team that the rest of the league believes that people hate. Way to go!!

  19. I don't know what people want anymore, a constant 25 goal scorer for $9.5m at 6 years like Columbus 😂
Every team who signs players to these types of contacts, knows the last two or three years are gambles. We knew Wheeler might be bought out when he signed it. It's the way of the NHL.
Oh it should have been 4 years at best, that's why players look at other teams. This isn't a Jet problem, its an NHL problem. One that will never be fixed cause of NHL ownership and its PA.

  20. Jake, i think you answered your fear. In 5 years (without covid flattening the salary cap) $8.5M will look team friendly. The JETS will move one or both by then for assets. I believe they bought some time to trade them at a premium. GO JETS GO!

  21. Neither player was going to sign for 5 or fewer years. Both players want to retire as Jets

  22. I agree with u that this may not be great for the long term but this tells me that they want to win now, so they better make more moves to make this team a contender for the cup.

  23. The Suter/Parise comparison. Oh man, this may be exactly that. Guys signed til they're 38 and both being bought out with 4 years left on contracts

  24. I have to say the hate needs to stop when it comes to Scheifele I’m starting to really get angry at people and calling them out because this hate all started with the Montreal series with Luke Evans and everybody knows it, I’m so sick of it and I can’t wait for him to be good this year so you guys can shut up about how much you don’t like Mark Scheifele

  25. 37 is not old maybe back in the 80s or 70s when players were not in as good shape as they are now, look at Ovechkin, look at Crosby. They are still really good players. Wheeler can still play but he was never as talented as Mark Scheifele

  26. I LIKE THE HELLY DEAL BETTER THN 55 ALLTHO HIS SCORINGS A BONUS …BUT WAT I LIKE MOST ISSSS ATLEAST IT CHANGES THE NARRATIVE OF PLAYERS WANTN OUT OF WPG
