@Canucks de Vancouver

    I’ve seen this movie before.

A player seemingly wanting out in the first full season with the new staff is not a great sign in my opinion

  2. BlueLemming97

The ultimate Canucks outcome is we trade him to CBJ for Gudbranson.

Honestly, Garland fits Tocchet’s system really well and seemed to play better under him. Unless we get a really good offer, I’d rather deal another winger and keep Garland as a steady middle 6 piece.

ETA: If it’s true that Garland requested the trade himself, then that changes basically everything I just said. I thought he’d be fine with his situation in Vancouver but ig he really wants to lock down a guaranteed top 6 role elsewhere.

  4. NerdPunch

With Garland it’s just hard to see how his role evolves beyond 3rd line minutes and PP2 duty. And $5M is a lot to spend on that role.

And that’s the kind of minutes you ideally want guys like Lekkerimaki, Raty, Hoglander, etc to be able to step into over the next 2-3 seasons.

  5. YouCanFucough

So you’ve played the best hockey of your career under Tocchet, and you’re opening the season playing on the wing with Elias fucking Pettersson.

I get the team wanting to clear up space but what does Garland think is gonna be better for his career than that?

  6. nilimas

I like Garland and will be sad to see him go, but I get it. He wants top 6 minutes and the writing is on the wall that he likely ends up on the 3rd line for a good portion of the season.

  7. Simple_Employment_49

This would seem a lot worse if garland didn’t switch agents. I want him to stay but sounds like he wants a better opportunity… oh well at least this isn’t because of the cap because we are under the cap with him.

  8. MemeMeOnce

Canucks go one day without drama challenge: impossible

  9. smcfarlane

Maybe time to pair Hoglander or Pod with Garland for a slightly overpaid RHD. Someone do research on 4-5 million dollar RHD league wide.

  10. TommyWiseau22

What a shame we have to trade him for that scrub Victor Hedman right

  11. mediumyeet

Really hope there is something to work out with CBJ for one of their dmen. They could use some right wing depth behind Laine. Would open up cap space for us.

If we could land some variation of Peeke for Garland that would be awesome. Same term on the contracts but we reallocate the money to D and clear 2.2mil. With that extra cap space we could probably sign Bear.

That would make our RHD depth.

    – Hronek
    – Bear
    – Peeke
    – Myers
    – Juulsen
    – McWard

I’d definitely have more confidence in that dcore than our current one.

The 120% *real* reason Garland is requesting a trade is because of that Joshua scrum in the preseason practice.

  13. metrichustle

Ever since JR took over, it seemed like Garland was never going to have a home in Vancouver. He had some pretty good metrics early on in the first season and 60 points was well within reach after the seasons he had in Arizona, but it just never worked out here.

I think he still has some value and can work as a middle 6 player where a team has more size and can utilize his offense a bit more. Hopefully we can get defense without paying another pick.

  14. giannigabagool

Hes a good player on an ok-ish contract.

Worst case ontario i think the canucks get a 3rd or something for him.

Funny enough, i could actually see him back in arizona.

  15. realheikko

You can be top line and PP1 in San Jose. Goodbye sweet prince.

  16. Strict-Caterpillar38

Weird timing after finally getting another chance in the top six

  17. chris039

come on down Columbus, give us a RHD

  18. mr_derp_derpson

If we have to add sweeteners to move him, that’s just going to be icing on the cake of the worst trade in team history.

  19. great_save_luongo

Lol this team is so fucking dumb.

  20. Suboobiz

Lmao can we finally admit the OEL deal was the worst trade in NHL history

  21. thelifeisthedream

Boeser now Garlander . .. . On a side note it seems JBs bad deals and contracts are still haunting us

  22. Spookedchicken

    Well that’s a spicy meataball

  23. Wazzy8

With the way the media and fanbase always shit on him plus management apparently trying to always move him it’s not surprising he probably finally wants out. I’m going to be super disappointed if he just goes to another team for nothing. All of this drama before we’ve even started the season is so toxic.

  24. gangstarapmademe

So funny the thread the other day about your favorite part of the offseason and everyone said ‘DRAMA FREE’ only for this to pop up THE DAY BEFORE THE SEASON OPENER. I love this team man just constant entertainment.

  25. Prettyspirals

Do we recoup our 2024 2nd rounder( Dickinson trade) and our 2024 5th? Probably looking at a 3rd more likely. If that’s the case let’s keep Garlic as we wouldn’t have anything to show for this cancerous trade/fair well gift from Jim Benning. His value is low so let’s trade him, Canuck logic…

  26. GangreneMachine

That trade has to be a top contender for worst in NHL when you look at the fallout.

We traded a top 10 pick and another solid pick for $4.5 million in dead cap space and $5 million tied up in a winger that wants out. Likely requiring us to take another bad contract to move him

$9+ million in cap space taken up when it should have been 925k

  27. flyingmango77

    worst trade in franchise history

  28. BambiesMom

Connor Garland to Arizona in return for Dylan Guenther and $146,667 in cap space in 23-24, $2,346,667 in cap space in 24-25, $4,766,667 in cap space in 25-27, and $2,126,667 in cap space in 27-29. You heard it here first folks.

  29. Overall-Bottle6213

Tbf they also gave Boeser permission to speak with other teams to find a trade and he hasn’t gone anywhere so idk if anything will actually materialize. Surprised though that he would want out given how well he did under Tocchet.

  30. rymantheterrible

Don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but anyone else feel like we might’ve lost the OEL trade?

  31. S3ahawk36

The Bassant Motors curse lives on

  32. Upbeat_Trainer

Wow, same thing happened with Boeser. I guess no one wants him.

  33. SourGrapesFTW

Garland goes to Coyotes and becomes a PPG player. I can see it.

  34. Hirose4SupremeLeader

This season is off to a real canucks Start with Soucy (brand new UFA to us) getting injured and Garland asking for a trade.

  35. jdmay101

There’s just no way this should happen. I get that management want to do right by a player who might get a better opportunity elsewhere but there is not a chance they get rid of him for value right now, so why make your team worse by trading away one of the guys who you absolutely know for a fact can put up points at 5v5 despite not playing on the top line?

Seriously I do not understand why this market has decided that Conor Garland shouldn’t be on the team anymore. You can pencil him in for around 50 points despite him not getting them on the PP. 4.9M is MORE THAN FAIR for that production. You need depth scoring to succeed in this league. With Suter and another winger who can put the puck in the net (Beauvilier, Mikheyev, Hoglander, even Lafferty… whoever) that’s an excellent depth scoring line that isn’t going to be a defensive liability, and you don’t need them to be your checking line because Joshua / Blueger / XYZ has that covered.

  36. ImAnAfricanCanuck

My guess is he goes to Carolina for Teuvo, or he goes to Buffalo for Olofsson.
