Right now I feel like Rod BrinD’amour when he was like « we got swept but we didn’t », like we lost the game but we didn’t because it was super close and we put on a good game against a great team but we still lost
Obviously, opening the season in the loss column sucks, and Perty and Peron had bad nights. That being said, I really liked what I saw from us tonight against the 3rd best team in hockey last year.
– Great puck movement on the power play
– Solid penalty killing
– Outshot the opponent
– Particularly great performances by Compher, DeBrincat, Larkin, Seider, Wallman, and Gostisbehere
– Didn’t roll over and die down 4-2 late
The wins will come, if we keep playing sharp there’s no doubt in my mind we make the playoffs this year. Let’s go kick the ever loving fuck out of Tampa now. LGRW!

The old vets killed us tonight. That should be a hint moving forward.
Ain’t the refs fault we didn’t win faceoffs. Or were in the box that frequently.

We played good overall. No head hanging here.
Great first period. Have to start taking our chances.
Second period wheels fell off due to bad penalties.
DP has to adapt it wasn’t a slash when he started in the league but it has been now for some time. The momentum changed as soon as they got a powerplay goal.
Loved that we fought until the end and the aggressive goalie pulls.
Petry really killed us on that icing that directly led to the face off goal.
Some good performances like husso the cat Walman Ras and sprong and some poor ones. It’s just game 1.
Hitting 2 posts in games like this pisses me off.
Raymond gonna remember that WHIFF after this one
Hung with a team that scored 107 points last season and probably got better over the summer. Season is young.
Well …. I’ve seen enough of Petry. I want Simon to come up.
Can’t be too mad about that one. They boys played good. Some things that need to be worked on but a good start for sure.
It’s the winnable games that eat at me. 1st period was so good. Ugh.

Overall I’m not disappointed that we didn’t steal a game from one of the best teams last season.
Lots to like. Aggressive. Good puck movement. HussZONE. Reasonable special teams. Cat-larks-Razor line when we needed to get back into it. Need to be smarter late, especially Petry, but can’t ask for a lot more from game one.
Shoutout to Fabbri for having the drive to come back from multiple ACL injuries and play well. Hope you stay healthy bud.
They took Ras’ and Holl’s assists away and this cannot stand
Pretty good game considering we had 9 new players on the roster
All in all it was a good game. We outplayed one of the top 5 teams in the league for a majority of the game. Defence outside of our top pair felt sloppy and husso needs to be a tad better. Didn’t think he was bad, but if we want to make the playoffs, he can’t just be OK. Good start to the season I’d say though
It’s weird, but 32+ shots is nothing to be ashamed of, but at the end of the game I felt myself wondering where the offense was going to come from?

Even though they got the empty netter, I felt more comfortable with this team in front of an empty net than I did last year
Tough first team to play against, the devils are young and fast. You like to see debrincat score in his first game, but their line overall was largely invisible. I think what I’m disappointed by a lot is how slow and bad defensively the old vets were. Perron, chiarot, and petry all noticeably had bad games and chiarot and petry were getting beat all night by faster skaters. For me that’s the root of why I’ve been largely upset with the FO. Onto the next one hopefully we can get a win with Vasi out.
Devils had 112 points last year. They were competitive. Hurts to lose, but all in all, definitely positives to take from this one.
I am whelmed.
Things need to tighten up some but overall this was a mostly fun game to watch and the team held decently against a bonafide playoff team.
Also Seider played 26:10 according the red wings app next highest was Walman with 21:22

I think we kill the “earning your spot” bullshit and just play berggren > perron and edvisson > petry. We need to develop these guys and they’re good enough to keep up. We’re not cup contenders but if we get these kids NHL reps early they will develop quicker. I understand Berg is poor defensively but Raymond was too and he still flourished his rookie season.
Also – Ras needs top 6 minutes. Put him with Cat and Larkin

On a positive note, Buffalo lost 1-5 to the Rangers and Sens lost 3-5 last night.
Losing 3-4 to the Devils doesn’t look bad in comparison.
Puck movement looks much better than in years past. Had a lot of chances and what-ifs, but that is also much better than years past. NJ is a solid team and for the first game of the year, this looks like an improved team with some promise.
