Looks like Rangers Black and Blueshirts hockey is back. The Rangers would throw their body in front of everything under Torts. You can sense that defense is first with this regime. Something desperately needed.
Good game.
How is the CDPOG banned that is criminal. Also if Panarin keeps that up holy hell balls
Loved the game. Please keep playing like this for the rest of the season. LGR!
I just hope we show up to compete like this every game and we’ll have a good chance at it
#KEEP LAF AND PANARIN TOGETHER
Fox shot for a ck tip? A game plan and system? What is this malarkey
Trouba goal in the first game of the campaign was not on my bingo card
Cuylle played a great game. He immediately reminds me of Pouliot. I’m not quite sold on old man Wheeler but at least in theory that line is a load for opponents to deal with.
Stellar win. Laf came out flying which is the biggest W of the day.
Just about every aspect of the game tonight was good. Honestly crazy seeing an actual system deployed on this team. You can see the difference in the defense and PK mentality of blocking shots
The ONLY thing I have to say that I didn’t like about tonight was – Blake Wheeler. I know he’s signed on a league minimum deal for only a year, but he was legit a waste of a body tonight and literally just glided and stared as that first goal unfolded in front of him. I know he’s old but I really hope we see more effort from him. He just looked like a slug all night.
Great game, lots of guys looked great. Happy hockey season.
The Kreider battle cry face is iconic
I know it’s one game but the game looked very different than last year. Players in good position and the neutral zone was quicksand for Sabres. One game but happy with the team game and definitely individual efforts.
LGR. LGR
This was a fantastic start to the season! So many good things! My personal observations… #1. Will Cuylle. Holy Shitarski that kid is so noticeable on every shift doing just about everything right. I have high hopes. #2. I LOVED the way we shut them down consistently in the neutral zone. Very noticeable and very different from the “NZ Trap” that the NJD put us all to sleep with a couple years back. I don’t know who said it but the notion that “be aggressive or be in the right place” mindset is very refreshing. #3. Physicality and willingness to sacrifice the body, most notably Lindgren, Trouba and Bonino. #4. Happy as shit that LaFreniere showed up and hopefully silenced the haters, even if short-lived. Great confidence building for him and I like him and Panarin together. #5. The entire D corps impressed me tonight. #6. IGOR! would have been a SO for win 100 if not for the random and indefensible rebound. I’m not ready to claim the Cup yet but I am very enthused about the season ahead and watching this group gel. Happy Hockey Season! LGR!
As much as people were criticizing the hire; the Rangers desperately needed an old school tough as nails guy like Laviolette. In the same vein as Torts; when he took over the Rangers were lazy as fuck with just sloppy play and garbage conditioning.
This was legitimately one of the best all around games I’ve ever seen them play as a full team.
[Love to see this from Laffy, just wish he saw Gus right there lol](https://youtu.be/7q_X81tayCA?t=274)
🎶good times, for a change 🎶
WE’RE FUCKING BACK BOIZ PLAY MY FAVORITE SONG
I must know what the Panarin Goal Sandwich is ..
Also.. while it’s only one game… this team looked like it had something it hasn’t had in a long time : An identity. The past three seasons have been « here’s a pile of talent in an assorted line coming at you and they’ll beat you individually ». That is not a team identity. Excellent neutral zone play with a focus on quick transitions out of the D zone. THAT is a team identity , and that’s what we saw tonight. It didn’t look like beer league hockey with top tier talent players trying to win the game on their own (or only passing to the guys they trust to do the right thing). The team actually looked like an NHL team.
Color me intrigued to watch the rest of the season….it really makes me wonder what Gallant actually DID behind the bench. Guess he was the « cool uncle » everyone has that you’d have a lot of fun with but you know isn’t good for you long term
It’s gonna get someone hurt and everyone just beaten down over the course of 82 but man am I a sucker for torts era shot blocking.
when the overall had to be changed the offseason and the whole offseason leading into the season posing alot of questions of this team, changed the narrative 5 times tonight. And now, the first one of many, the post game review
1st Period: The Rangers forecheck in both the neutral zone and ozone looked amazing. lotta players moving not stagnant and sitting in one place. And they got to the dirty area. Laf a day after his 22nd birthday (and my 30th) gets a goal. In the dirty area off a juicy rebound. Bonne fête Laf! Bonne fête. Then, came the very impressive neutral zone control 1-3-1 system. it was excellent. Will Cuylle looked great. throwing the body around. Rangers took control of the game, from his office, Christopher James Kreider joined in on the action. Chris Kreider, (whispers) it’s a power play goal!
2nd Period: The Rangers forecheck continued to amaze me. Much better than last year. Again, that Wheels, Cuylle, Trocheck line is dynamite. Then, the shaved Bread who went mia during the playoffs last year returned. Laf should have gotten an assist. The goal given up, whatever deflection in front.
3rd Period: Rangers took full control. Special teams was excellent with the return of the block party. Kreids shorthanded goal ohhhhhhhhh baby! what a set up by mika using that speed. really sucked the soul out of the Sabres.
Overall, the Rangers performance tonight was absolutely excellent. I think Vally said in the post game that if they had this last year in the playoffs, we (the fans) would be having a different talking point. Special teams, even strength, the block shots, and physicality to name anything else. Excellent, excellent, excellent. More importantly, Rangers Win! 2 Points in the bag.
Glad that the guys are back. Onto the Jackets. Just got off the phone w/ Oppie, he told me to take in the sheets for the dub! Onto the Jackets
It returns from last year; God Save the King Back afta dis.
I will not be ok the day Ryan Lindgren is no longer a ranger
The Wins above Replacement of Gustaffson compared to Ben Harpur might as well be a million
You can’t understate what it means that Will Cuylle can hang as a third liner.
Whenever you can keep Goodrow on the 4th line, that’s to the benefit of everyone.
Trouba kind of stole Kreider’s hatty or a Shesterkin goal.
The game was locked and everyone knows their goalie goes back in once an empty netter is scored for 5-1.
Not a great look for the captain.
GET THIS BREAD GET THIS DUB THEN LEAVE PEACE OUT 🥖🥖🥖🥖🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞
Looked a lot better than last year. If this keeps up I am a happy man.
I never doubted them for a second
Gonna need the official scorer to go ahead and give Laf an assist on that Panarin goal please
Chris Kreider 164 goal season confirmed???
Looked good, im just happy they looked ready to play every period. Having a grip on the neutral zone for once in a tremendous step forward! And of course letting Kreider play where he does best with Zibby. Lavioli gets a lot of love tonight, keep it up.
Well, that was a joy to watch. Exactly what I’ve wanted to see from this team for years. A structured neutral zone defense, smart positioning, and an 60 minute effort. If Laviolette can keep them playing like this all the way I see good things in this teams future!
Remember when everyone was saying Laffy sux?
Can they keep eating up that much rubber over the long slate?
To be continued…
