Rangers looked like they were playing with 8 guys in the D zone. They were awesome. Blocking shots and clogging the shooting lanes.

Tage Thompson played only 9 minutes after 2 periods, Greenway led all forwards in icetime first 40 minutes. Having your 47 goal scoring center on the bench isn’t going to win many games
First line were ghosts tonight, Greenway was awesome. Benson looked as expected.
This outcome is what happens when you don’t make additions to the FWD group in the off-season and rely on kids for 2/3 of the roster.
The shot blocking by the Rangers was 1st rate

"A special type of opponent" hmmmm, is that saying you are in a different class than this team? I mean, this is a team you have to beat or at least compete with on a better level to be considered a contender…. now its time to put up or shut up. This game was a reality check after all the pre season hype!
Not ready to play giving the game away without any type of fight. Happens on opening night? Sabres don't fight through tough opponents they fold. Why does Granato keep pulling the goalie when they are down 3 goals. They didn't have anything all night and what they are all of a sudden going to score 3 goals. They need some men on that team.
That was an absolute disgrace. They cannot win at home and I’m so tired of it. Below average teams win at home so what is the issue. Truly one of the worst games I’ve watched in a while.
That's what the Rangers are going to be this year. They would have played that way if they scored the first goal or not.

When Jordan Greenway is the best player on the ice, you have a massive problem. Tage and Cozens were brutal. Everyone looked slow. The home woes continue.
I liked our hitting, Rangers are a playoff veteran team and they executed their trap system to perfection. Three losses in a row, we need to stop the bleeding on Sat but I am not counting on it We never do that well on the Island.

Speed is a concern.
You had an opportunity to move on from slower forwards like Okposo and Olofsson. Guys like Savoie, Kullich and Rosen have their path blocked for now. Even Benson isn’t the fastest, and it might be a criticism of him until he can get stronger and work on his speed. Olofsson isn’t a good passer – that’s not who you want replacing Quinn. You are kidding yourself.

How are the Sabres so bad at faceoffs? 36%? Buffalo can't play the style they want to play if they don't have the puck, and that was the case all night. And still so bad at home? I realize it's just one game, but that was a very uninspired performance and what seemed like a continuation of last year's home games. It's mind-boggling that a team that has playoff hopes is so bad on home ice. They compared to Anaheim last year in home records.
I was high on this Buffalo team last season and thought they had a chance to sneak into the playoffs, which they almost kinda did.
I'm not so sure anymore about this season. Not saying they can't possibly make the playoffs, they can, they have a lot of talent on that roster, but the last three games (yes, including preseason) just shows how easy it is to score on this team. It was easy to score on them last year, and nothing really seems to have changed in that regard. Granato is still rolling the same system, Jokiharju is still in the top 4, Thompson and Skinner are still looking clueless in the D-zone, and Okposo is slower than ever. I just don't know, man.
This team could really need a more balanced coach and a Danault type of match-up centre who can lock shit down.
