I’m sure the team would love to limit it to 5 years and I’m sure Toews knows MacFarland isn’t going to ruin the competitiveness of the team to give out the highest offer for sentimental reasons. Meet in the middle. Maybe some trade protection in the first four years?

Really hope this is true. To be a contender, this team needs Toews. Short of Bo emerging as a true top pairing D this year, a top 4 of Makar, Bo, G and Manson is not contender level unless both bottom pair D were to play like 4/5s instead of 6/7s.
