Canucks looking to cut 1-2 million in cap space and get back a D man.

They want a defenceman? This feels like a match made in heaven!

Lol Friedman doesn’t know shit. Basically guaranteed PLD to Montreal. Didn’t happen. Predicted Helle to NJ. Didn’t happen. Predicted Schieffle traded this off season and didn’t happen.

I’d be happy to flip Appleton, Stanley, and a pick but it’s not happening. I say Apps cuz that’s the only spot I see Garland fitting into unless there’s an injury to someone in the top 9.

Jets can complete the Conor trifecta. Have one in net, one at forward, and one at D.

    Garland for Schmidt, let’s go!

I doubt Vancouver has an interest in Stanley. They seem to want a more established player. Morrissey/Demelo/Samberg won’t be moved, Pionk/Schmidt make too much without retaining which Chevy historically has been loathe to do over multiple seasons.

Dillon, however, may be interesting. While I feel Vancouver would prefer a RHD, Dillon makes the right amount of money, only has one year left (important for them so they can pay Pettersson next year), and provides the physicality they don’t have a lot of in their back end.

If Heinola was healthy right now, I’d think it’d be a no-brainer, even if we would then lack a bruiser on the back end.

Short term effects would mean one of Appleton/Kupari/Namestnikov/Barron would be benched which would be a waste of a good player, but would mean even with an injury up front we’d be fine, which would be an intriguing spot to be in.

It’s been rumoured for quite a while that Garland isn’t happy playing in Canada. Now, I understand his contract doesn’t have any trade protection, so he doesn’t exactly have much of a choice, but if he isn’t happy playing in Vancouver, I can’t imagine he’d be thrilled to play here in Winnipeg.

I think Nashville snaps him up and sends them a defenceman like Barrie or Carrier to make it work.
